X-Pot collapsible (space saving) cookware

Postby deleted » Fri May 22, 2015 7:17 am

Has anyone been using the X-Pot series of cookware from Sea to Summit Gear?

The four sizes of X-Pots are collapsible, fully featured cooking pots that combine the heat-distribution of aluminum with the flexibility of silicone.

I saw a video on Twitter demoing how flat the cookware folds down. Thought to myself that's perfect for a tiny trailer. The price is high but I had a dividend to use at REI which reduced the price of the X-Pot Kettle dramatically. http://www.seatosummit.com/product/?item=X-Pot+%2F+Kettle&o1=0&o2=0&o3=130-41 It's on its way. I'll update later if I think it's worth the price. Am looking forward to leaving my stainless steel pot at home the next time I go camping.

This is the kettle folded flat:

Interesting.

I wouldn't have thought of collapsible silicone for cooking. We use quite a few of the collapsible silicone products for colanders and leftover storage. One nice bonus with the is that the silicone is super easy to clean up.

Let us know how it holds up, Stacie.

Now that is cool. I use other collapsible dishware for things but not seen one that would work for cooking until now.

I don't know if this would work on my stove or not as I am not sure how big the "al lu minium" base is and if it would completely cover the flames from my stove (so as not to melt the silicone sides). But this is way cool none the less. Nice find!

Java:

The anodized aluminum base of the largest 4.0 liter X-Pot is 10" in diameter
The base of the 2.8 liter pot is 8.4" in diameter
The base of the 1.4 liter pot is 7.5" in diameter
And my little kettle is 1.3 liters and 6" in diameter at the base

To date I only have a collapsible silicon funnel. This is going to be a big step up!

Interesting concept & certainly is a functional thing to have to save space for cooking. Tried to find any links to cooking with silicone cookware & health risks, it looks to be pretty safe at this point. It's still relatively new, so I'm going to "wait & see" what others say about it. Looking forward to reports on how it holds up, general use & overall "rating" of what actual users think about it. It must be easy to clean!

I had similar health concerns about these types of products noseoil. I've used several silicon cooking/baking tools but not in the oven bakeware. Then I realized wait a minute, I've been using Silpat http://silpat.com/index.html baking mats for a few years now. Went and looked up their history to find they've been in business since the 1960's so (while a different brand) it made me feel like the silicone products are most likely safe if you stick with better brands and not cheaper knock-off pieces from companies that might try to cut corners on quality. The Silpat baking sheets are incredibly non-stick so I'm really looking forward to cooking with my X-Pot Kettle just to see how easy it is to wipe it clean with a soapy sponge and quick rinse after use.

They look amazing. The demo showed very easy to collapse. No pushing just right. That would be my only concern. Could they accidently collapse while in use.

Give them a good workout.
