All joking aside, it's pretty unusual to find a teardrop here that is not completely overbuilt for it's intended use.

Correct me if needed, but there is only one foamie catastrophic failure that stands out mentioned in this forum and that was a very light standy that blew over while being towed and even that resulted in only minor damage able to be repaired. That's a pretty good indication of how robust they seem to be.

Friends of mine destroyed their factory built trailer by hitting the frame/body on a kerb at relatively low speed - the whole thing disintegrated in a storm of wood & aluminum.

Fred, technically it wasn’t a Foamie’ failure , but a weather “incident” ... That and a too high vs. width trailer , and no Ballast .. (ask us about the ballast )

The point I was making is the execution of the foamie exceeded the design and use, as well as minimized the damage. No exploding sticks & metal on what would certainly have been total disaster for most factory made pull behinds. Seems like the fiberglass shell trailers have greater innate longevity though.

Here's how I attached my walls to the floor. The floor is 2" foam sandwiched between 2 layers of 3/8th inch plywood that is covered with 10 oz burlap glued on with paint. I then took metal flashing and made a channel for the walls to sit down into. The metal flashing goes under the bottom of the floor about 2". It is glued and screwed and some areas I used rivits. By attaching my walls this way the foam is glued on all 3 sides. Also the metal flashing gives me a hard point for attaching the clearance lights. The best part of doing it this way was that I got all the metal flashing free from craigslist.

Thanks for reply and pics. I could add metal to exterior to create 3-sided pocket. Will ahveot think about whether it's needed.

Here is the side view with lower and upper panels dry-fitted. Rear of lower panel is 40" H. Hatch in raised position will create 72" rear access

Here is view from interior - panels are flush on the inside. since lower is 2" thick and upper is 1" thick. Hatch will be 3/4" polystyrene.

Moving forward with Beula- here is the dry-fitted hatch in open and closed positions. Hatch is 3/4" polystyrene walls and a 1 1/2" kerfed ceiling. Planning to beef up the wall-ceiling joint with with an angled piece of 2" polystyrene. Pics of one side of the hatch:

Comments on strength of this arrangement after canvassing? Do I need a luaun on the inside for additional strength. Importance of spars with 6" span of 1 1/2" polystyrene? If needed, and correct spacing?
