TearDrop Done!

Postby MarcInBoise » Mon Jun 01, 2015 7:11 pm

Well, ALMOST done

Today, I took the trailer to the DOT and had it inspected and approved. I then went to the DMV and registered the trailer and got my plates!
I still have a couple things to do... gas struts on the hatch, finish work in the galley, and a lid for my tongue/battery box.

I'd like to offer my sincere thank you to everyone that offered guidance and advice while I was tackling this build.
Tony L! That's mostly you!
BTW, the gentleman at the DOT said "thank you" for the advice of having all my receipts in a spreadsheet.
I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes.

Well, I suppose I should have done a build journal, but I didn't... So I'll put a few photos here of the major steps:

Here is the trailer steel cut, and laid out for fit prior to welding.

After welding, it was primed and painted with truck bed liner paint:

After welding the trailer, I ran into my first error. We welded the frame on sawhorses and heated the tubes too hot and the frame sagged. So using a little redneck ingenuity, I put the frame on some 2x6's and put the jeep on top of it for weight, then used my floor jack to bend the frame back to position.
Don't laugh. It worked!!!

Next the floor was built, sealed and insulated.

Then it was tarred on the bottom, and my Father-in-Law help cut/install Costco fake wood flooring:

Next the sides were cut out, and the interior sides stained and poly'd

And stood up:

Hi Mac, You drove your jeep on the frame. Are you crazy, No good job. I've done that a bunch of times. Mac you have created an heirloom project and should be proud of your accomplishment.
Enjoy, Chris

I was curious if the golf clubs and waders were involved in the TD build process or just innocent bystanders....
