Securing paneling to interior walls.

How are you securing your finished panels to your interior walls for your CT conversion?

I just got mine and should put up a few in a few days. I am thinking of using screws mainly because I want to be able to take them down anytime in the future should I want to do some remodeling.

I went to Lowes and really did not find screws I liked. I am now going to experiment with some wood screws that will flush mount and some colored ones that are like Kreg screws ( I am assuming you are familar with them). I do not mind the look that the "Kreg" screws would give. I think they could add some appeal to the finish appearance.

My next store visit may be to a speciality wood working shop to see what they have available.

I planed on staining these maple veneer panels.

Instead of decorative screws, I used two different methods to dress up exposed screws.

To fasten my interior door jamb/surround I used black oxide oval screws with finish washers. Here's a link to the finish washers: https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0149243. Here are a couple of pictures of the door surround:





For the underside of hatch I used regular screws with plastic screw covers. (I hadn't snapped the covers over the screws yet.)

Tom, that does work for me. Thanks for your link and photos. I am not sure what I will do, but this is a very good start with my search.

For a really flush fastener with a wide bearing surface you might want to look at plastic push rivets like these. I assume removal won't be a regular operation and with these you can just slice off the head and re-drill the hole to replace. They are also available with a removable drive in pin or screw for more frequent removal.

This is also interesting. Adding it to my candidate list. But I am concerned about pulling in the panel tight. And I may never remove any panel if all right.

look at the wafer head screws at home depot or lowes, they are 9/16 long with a large thin head. or look on ebay and see if you can find some in the color you want.

We use this little gizmo from FastCap for drilling pilot holes for installing cabinets, it leaves a perfect recess for a self-adhesive wood FastCap. Makes the hole nearly invisible. http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/FlushMount-Drill-Bit-17p15.htm
