Hello from BC, Canada

Postby cothurnal » Wed Jun 17, 2015 3:59 pm

Hi,

My husband and I are in the planning stages of our own 5x8 teardrop! We have big dreams of having it ready for our road trip on July 19th but seeing how hard it is to come by doors and windows in Western Canada.. that may be a pipe dream.

We both enjoy camping and exploring the outdoors with our dog and as much as I love tent camping, the idea of a custom teardrop just seems so much more exciting.

I'm going to thank you all in advance for putting up with my numerous questions.

Thanks,

Kayla & Gordon (and Wyatt the red heeler)

Welcome aboard.
Doors aren't that hard if you take your time, and windows can be found on Craigslist if you're patient. Just look for a really beat up trailer, and strip out whatever you need. You'll be amazed by what you can find.

Welcome fellow BC'er. Yes like mentioned windows do pop up on craigslist once in a while. i was just able to grab 3 from the bargain cave at Fraserway RV in Abbotsford for a project i'm working on with my brother. 40 bucks each gently used. Myself when I needed some I grabbed a truck canopy a guy was giving away for free with a broken back flip door and scooped the side sliders to use on my lil trailer so keep those eye's open and good luck.

Brian! My teardrop knight!
We live in Vancouver. We had to bite the bullet and purchase our window, door, trim pieces, etc, from a place in Oregon. We're picking them up from the post office in Blaine on Saturday. I searched and searched and Craigslist disappointed me for once in my life and the CAD/USD conversion is making me cry. :?
Unfortunately,we won't be that far along on those dates. We'll still be in Manning Park with my husbands family. We'll be in the Kettle Valley by the 21st but I'm not sure we'd make it through Westbank. We're also roadtrip newbies and I don't want to zig zag all over the place and end up lost or way behind schedule haha. But the 3rd annual Farm Gathering? We're in.

Hello everyone! Thank you for the warm welcome! We're starting the build this weekend so I will create a thread.

Hello - I'm in Coquitlam if you want to see some of my solutions to the classic problems with teardrop builds. I made my own doors, hatch hinge, vent, etc. I don't trust a lot of the off-the-shelf bits (like hurricane hinges that are only one part of a leak proof hatch) So many leaky trailers . . .

Hurray, someone nearby! So far we have just blindly bushwhacked ourselves through our first build because of time constraints but the next one.. definitely will use your expertise.
