You guys know we let Foamies' sit Outside ALL the time . For Years now , and the only maintenance we have to do to the cabin area is a good washing every six months and a repaint after several years when the paint eventually gets “chalky” .. or when you get tired of the original color .
Foamies’ do really Great sitting outside ... and for some odd reason , they don’t attract ants ... Our plywood trailers drew Ants like a holiday resort... grrrr!!! I swear there were ants eating my wood , by their “leavings" .... sawdust ... Foamies , no problems ...

I did a sample piece this afternoon of canvas on foam using TBII, and Chell said she might consider it. But she wants to see paint on it first. She wants it to match the car which is a metalic silver.

What can I put on canvas that might resemble metalic silver?

Maybe a light Metalflake ... ? Have to do it in a clear coat over the top... Why don't you do like I did when painting the FS... " Look Baby , it matches the house ! " ...

There is that reflective roof paint like TAC used on the big pink all the way through metal flake bed liner paint. You should have no problem finding something you & Chell like.

I used this. It worked really well. The canvas texture shows through, so you might want a couple coats of Gripper to fill in the weave before using this.

The Mad Dash WW focus is on weight, not moisture resistance (although I'll take any moisture resistance that comes with using foam)

In the past I've framed in the door with pine. Is that a wise thing to do on the WW or should I try to eliminate the pine?

Mike.
I think you should absolutely keep the wood frame.
There's now a hard edge of every exposed corner of foam on the Big Pink, inside and out.
In either wood, or plastic corner molding. It makes a huge difference.


Also, If you don't like the plastic, George is using metal flashing on his "#1" build, and that is coming along very nicely.
But I prefer the plastic, and used both regular and bullnose corner....

Hard corners sounds like a wonderful plan. Does it make any sense to switch from a pine to a cedar to improve the moisture resistance?

I've been very happy with the cedar that is in my project, although I do have pine as well.

I'm not sure the type of wood matters that much. At long as the grain is tight.
Remember to use the waterproofing "mix" on any wood that might get wet, like the bottom of the door.

The steel flashing works nice but long lengths are unforgiving in unskilled hands. Too easy to get ripples and deformed little segments that do not sit flat. You also have the potential issue of differential heat expansion with flashing and certainly the added complication of having to use different glues to bond it vs wood where TB II that is used for canvas works fine. Beats routing out openings and embedding wood for speed though.

For all that, it works great for small openings like the fan cutout and is much easier to put together in those kinds of situations where clamping wood in place is more difficult.

I decided to go with wood for my door openings and edges but it's a tough call versus the flashing.

Cedar might be lighter ... and if you use the eastern Red Cedar it’ll smell nice too ... just to say , 10 years ago Katrina knocked down my only ERC tree on the property (that I know of) i cut the bottom off and brought it to NOGC to season to make English longbows , the rest we just left on the ground .... It’s still there today , in good shape too . all the while Giant Water Oaks have been reduces to rubble by termites and rot ...

Pic ... the ERC is the diagonal brown stick going from lower left to upper right ... I may just dig it out and make a walking stick ... and that’s with No Mix ...
