To Adria or not to Adria

Postby PatxiPt » Tue Jul 14, 2015 4:51 am

Hello!

As posted in my introduction, my wife and I bought a 1980 Adria 450D for 1100€. Looked ok, with some minor floor damage on 2 corners, no signs of leaks, just 2 cracked windows, easily replaced.

Same model, not mine:

Upon arriving home, and doing cleanup, things took another course... The floor damage on all corners is far greater - roughly 1/3 the floor area at the back - the front right side wood strip that attaches the wall to the floor was a piece of rotten wood, so the wall is just floating, and God knows what more rot will appear.

Went to a RV repair center and the owner asked if I had spare time, as if they'd do the repair, it would be very costly and not good enough of a restoration.

All in all, I ended up paying 1100€ for a chassis with documentation, an awning, portapotty and minibar fridge.

So with that said, I'd like to ask for an opinion on the path to take.

My car is a 2003 Citroën C5, 1.8L and 115 tired horses under the hood (some may have died already  )

The trailer has a 750kg/1450lbs dry weight and maximum gross weight of 900Kg/1980lbs that I would like to keep, and sits on a B&B chassis with torsion bar suspension.

Here's the factors to take into account:

- Able to stand up inside (I'm 5.9', she's 5.5'), but I'm willing to crouch a little, the wife... not
- Able to sleep 4 (we have a 11 month baby, and will want another one in the future) with one double bed (6.3"x4.7" matress)
- Space for a portapotty and small tub to bathe the baby in.
- Space for a canister stove (or a kerosene oldie ;) ) and microwave oven for the baby.
- Keep as much of the current cabin length as possible (4.5m/14.8 x 2m/6.6')
- CHEAP as possible!
- The stove, 3-way fridge, one roof vent and 3 windows are salvageable, as well as a lpg lamp.
- Kitchen at the rear isn't necessary

We'd like to go camping next year, as this year our dream came to pieces (literally, I nearly lost a window on the drive home from the RV shop!).

The wife likes the teardrop shape as do I, but I'm also considering a pop top with rigid walls (corrugated acrylic is light and resistant), or a mix of both like the Winter Warrior. At the same time, a bit light and with little drag.

I'm open to suggestions.

Thank you :D
