Wisconsin State Park fees going up!

Postby Backroads4me » Mon Jul 27, 2015 6:04 am

Just came across this nifty bit of info, thought I'd share it with my fellow Wisconsinites and those who planned on visiting. A tiered system of fee hikes, depending on various factors----of Wisconsin State Parks, starting tomorrow, 28 July 2015:

Luckily, our favorite, more rural or rustic parks are in the middle and lower tiers, and we don't use electric sites.

Thanks, I heard someone discussing this. She also mentioned, Walker stated he would like to completely de-fund the
Wisconsin Park system from state moneys.

I guess the Koch brothers hasn't had enough compensation for putting him into office?

Wisconsin State Park fees going up!

Enough politics. My teardrop obsession is to avoid that nonsense.

Prices go up because costs go up, economics 101.

The Wisconsin park fees are a bit stiff in my opinion, compared to other states I've visited. I've seen several political statements on this forum BTW. Chill Gerry.

It's always a difficult choice & struggle to fund government services by having all taxpayers pay or have the users pay. Of course you can minimize the costs by not putting in more facilities/improvements and not hiring more or permanent employees.

I like the choice of paying or not by voting with my feet, either way. :R

I just got back from a 2 week trip and a non-electric campsite in a Wisconsin State Park cost me $33 (an electric site would have been $43). They charged a daily admission fee to the park which is higher for non-residents and also the camping fee is higher for non-residents. Needless to say, I was not a "happy camper" with their fees and policies. My last night of camping was at a state park here in Iowa. Cost for an electric site was $16. We don't have a park user fee and the camping rates are the same for all people...residents or not.

Mustangcats is correct. You're charged a fee to "use" the park, as well as one to camp. In fact, you can't even drive through a Wisconsin State campground to check it out without paying the fee, which is pretty annoying.

I suspect a lot of states charge user fees and camping fees. Minnesota does. I paid $25 for my annual sticker to enjoy our parks then a campground fee when I camp. Makes sense to me, if your not using the campgrounds your not paying to support that portion. For me it's worth it, we have great state parks, mostly.
