While I'd love to build my own teardrop some day my main focus now is knowing if this is the right type of camping trailer for me. I've been looking at tent trailers but like that teardrops are light weight and already assembled for my primary purpose, enclosed sleep and storage. I'm a fly fisherman, want to camp off the beaten trail and be protected from the elements etc. I'd really like to rent a tear drop in the Salt Lake City area but have struck out with finding that option, just to see what it is like. Towing with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon that's been upgraded for moderate off road use I'd like a light weight trailer that can go off piste(dirt roads with mild clearance is fine). Looking to go into Wyoming fishing in September and try one out. Any good options for rental out of Utah or Wyoming?

Not a rental and not sure if you fly fish from a boat. . . But this could be a perfect trailer for you if you do end up deciding a tiny trailer is the right solution for your needs.

Vintage would be very hard to find. But the American Dream company link I shared is to a new company making vintage reproductions so if you can afford one, you can have one.

I do have CRA pictures. I'll be posting them on my blog (hopefully) very soon. I got to see Ron's version of this duo at the CRA meaning vintage trailer, with a replacement reproduction boat since the original was missing. Which is what made me think to mention it here

Teardrop camping isn't for everyone. Which in my opinion is too bad. I see plenty of the mega fifth-wheel camp buildings getting parked and after they are set up, you don't see the owners outside. It's different with a 'drop. I think teardroppers like to be outdoors and I'm not convinced that's true of the entire RV crowd. To each his own though.

I suggest checking your Lil Guy dealers. There are lots of them around. (I can't say I would recommend you buy one, but I haven't given them that close of look –so if you get interested find a more educated opinion.) They very well may rent a demo unit.

We fly fish a bunch using our 'drop. Fishing is the normal but not exclusive excuse for a teardrop trip.

Howdy and welcome,
I don't know about renting one but I built mine for off road flyfishing and to be towed by a CJ5 with a 10" lift. I love it and it works great. One thing to keep in mind if you go this route is the teardrop will need to be spring over axle with a more rearward axle placement for a good tongue weight ie 200-300 lbs and it will need larger tires to get some clearance.
