Another stolen teardrop

Postby S. Heisley » Wed Jul 29, 2015 8:25 pm

Please be on the look-out. ...Picture below. The stolen Little Guy belongs to Jeremy Betty, who posted the following:
Well I'm sad to post that my tear drop was stolen out of my driveway last night. Its a pretty obvious little camper so if anyone happens to see this please let someone or me know! It was stolen in Missoula Montana in the early morning hours of July 27th. If you want to share this that would be appreciated.

Very sorry to hear this. I'll share the link with my friends who live in Montana. Is there any contact information in case someone does see it? To Jeremy or the Police Department there?

Yeah, I've been keeping my eyes peeled three hours south of Missoula. I'd love to spot that trailer and the guy towing it. :stompspam: So to speak. :frightened:

 If someone sees this trailer they should notify the police in the area where it is spotted as the police can put out an A.P.B. for that area and get it back more quickly and safely than the owner could do.

Having been taken two days ago, the thieves could have traveled quite a distance by now; or, it could be hidden somewhere locally. It's anybody's guess.

This is from the owner's Facebook page:

Update 07/29/15
Thanks so much for everyone sharing this. Unfortunately there has still been no progress or update on my stolen tear drop. The Missoula Police Department(MPD) gave it a case number, put out a B.O.L.O.(be on the lookout) and put it in state and national databases as stolen but its unknown if that will ever do anything or, if it does help, when that might be. If anyone needs to report something you can call the MPD at 4065526300. Thanks and hopefully something comes from everyone sharing this!

Tony or Sharon can you please let Jeremy know that if he'd like me to put together a "STOLEN" flyer for him I can make one like the one I made for Fred's Alaska Teardrop (that was stolen less than a month after he sold it) and host it on my server giving Jeremy a direct url so he can share it on social media and let people print out flyers to hang around Montana. He'd just need to send me a picture or two and whatever information he wants to share.

It looks like this to give him idea of what content to send me if he'd like me to make one for him:

Not to hijack this post, but, this got me thinking if there is a tracking device that could be installed in a TD to find its location if lost or stolen. Looking at various trackers I don't know what type would be best, but, most are under $100. GPS or Bluetooth? Interesting if there was a reasonable tracker for this purpose...

Stacie:

I'm not "Friends" with the owner on Facebook (nor do I know him). Here's his link. https://www.facebook.com/jeremy.betty?fref=ts You might do the request directly.

Lo-Jack works on cars etc because there is a constantly charged power source. I do not believe it would be practical for a Teardrop even with a battery.
The trailer can sit for months without the battery being topped off. Using one with a float charger might work but I am not up on its limits. A solar panel might make things work all the time.

Until I sold my teardrop I used a wheel lock similar to the boot parking police use. It worked well but there is not locator function with it.

You would need GPS and Cellular. Not sure how bluetooth would work since it only has maybe a 30 foot range. But anyway they both require juice.

This was from a previous thread last year about security. It uses cellular towers to locate the tracker, you get updates on your phone, and the battery is good for three years. Thought I'd share it again:

Stacie Tamaki wrote:I was using a tracker with a monthly fee but think I'll switch to this when it comes out: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/itraq-the-cellular-tracking-device

They haven't shipped yet but I did order one. I'll update after it arrives what I think of it. The best part about it is it's so small you can hide it in the trailer to give yourself time to locate if if it is stolen. If you're doing a custom build you can even create a hiding spot just for it. Here's the company website link: https://itraqtag.com/how-it-works/

Stacie, I've had my eye on the itraq also. Somewhere I read they were working on a rechargeable one. Have you heard that?

I know some offshore power boaters that use the Spot device. It can be used for emergencies as well as a tracker.
