Dear Friends

After a Lil Battle with the Hubs to our Rims.... It all turned out real nice...
So the Finn Voyager now sits on refitted and machined hubs...tires and rims..

They came out better than what I expected....

I tried on the Fenders for viewing and ......

Here are a couple of photos ..... The ready built floor will be bolted to the frame this weekend....

Heikki, Great looking whels and fenders. Now you're getting close to the "fun part". As this whole thing comes together, every day is a new adventure. You'll get to the part where you won't sleep all night because you will be building in your dreams.

Feels great. We had to redo the Hubs Again.... They were not good enough for the Safety Inspectors here ... The guy was a real "joik"..

So had the hubs "Professionally" done by a Machinist that I took the Rims and Hubs to and Bingo... The rims now fit like a glove ... Now they look like they have been bought for the Smoothie Bolt Pattern and off the shelf in Somewhere USA.. plus we had them Inspected by a Safety Official who himself enjoys Ol Cars and Oldies Music...

The hubs are one piece and no adapters needed... Whew!

But ... tell me folks... how much of a gap is between the back inside of tire to edge of frame (normally) ...

Looks like I wont be able to bring the sides down on the sides .... especially 3/4 inch wall? Unless I use spacers?

Maybe I should just install walls on top of frame? Or flooring?

I used adapters at first but then I worried about the bearings. Since I put on the Dexter torsion axle, I don't need them. Keep in mind, this is a development process unless you've built two or three before.

Have fun with it and keep us posted on the progress.

Those do look like production wheels...nice. With my homebuilt chassis and a Dexter torsion axle, I have over 2" clearance between the inside of the tires and the frame. With a light (relatively speaking) tear, I don't see a problem using spacers if you want more clearance. Somone with more trailer experience may disagree and I'd listen to experience speaking.

It felt like forever to get this far... especially with the beauracracy...But its been covered...


Does that height look normal to you? To me it seems sort of high but ok Ive never seen a live teardrop before.. Only on photos and movies...I,ll post the flooring photos this coming weekend .... or maybe even in a day
or two.. That came out real "perdy as well" Ive got the Karelia Hardwood picked out for the flooring... which Im going to float.
It has a lock joint on each piece so no glueing is necessary...


Finally things are movin again...

Heikki, that looks real nice and yes it is sitting pretty high...your only solution is to shrug and say who cares, that is what I was wanting or go to the effort to put your axle on top of the springs...either way will by Ok by me

I hate to say it but it does look too high to me too... I,ll get the height
measurement tomorrow for you.. and take a couple of photos of the inside
where the shocks are and inside of wheels...

I think Im going to do somthing about the height...otherwise its not going to go out of my mind... Its the shock supports that will then have to be changed possibly.... I,ll show with the pics....

...it's yours, so only you can make those decisions...on ours we have about 12" of clearance...the fenders (same as yours) come down 2"s below the frame level with 205-70-15 tires...you would have to redo your spring mounts to put the axle over the springs and probably shorten the lower shock mount and possibly move the top mount over towards the center of the frame...

I will inspect the shock setup and see how to reinstall the axle ....
Ive already done it in my mind a dozen times... soooooo.

2 steps forward and 1 back ....but its better to do it now .... than regret later...

Okay I was out working on the Teardrop Again....

I took some photos of the "Wheel Set Up" as well. As I said I would find out the height of the frame with wheels on... and.....

My tape measure reads 20 inches..... the axle is 2 inches by 2 inches.. so our plan now is to put the axle above the leaf springs...It wont do much but give about 2 to 2.5 inches lower...





That should look a little better but not much...

Another thing I noticed that the inside wheel edge to frame is 1 inch and 1/4 spacing...

Will spacers be needed and how thick of a spacer can I use? Still thinking of the droppin of side walls...

But ok the adventure procedes...
