No rest for the weary

Postby Caveman1970 » Sun Aug 02, 2015 7:34 pm

Just back from a camping trip in Bryson city, and Once again I am reminded that when camping in a Teardrop you may not get any rest!
I was approached by multiple people and they always ask the same thing... "so do you sleep in it or what"
Day and night...
I wonder what the most common interruption to your camping trips while in your teardrop are??
(and I post this with light hearted spirit, knowing its par for the course while camping in a teardrop, it does draw attention!)
cheers!

Yup! Last weekend, I went camping with friends; and, as usual, I was always visiting in another campsite. However, I was sharing my campsite with a tenting buddy and he told me that every time someone walked by, they marveled at my trailer. That made me feel good. It's funny, but it made him feel good, too; and, he would sometimes tell them that "She built it!" I should have left him the key and let him give tours!

If you rather not meet people when camping, don't get a teardrop and be sure to leave the dogs at home. Both act as ice breakers when camping.

We have a can bank in our galley. We put a coin in it every time someone stops by to ask about our teardrop. It helps to pay for our adult beverages.

I hhad the same experience at the VA Creeper Trail TearJerkers campout. And I like Sharon, do not have a TD. It is a good feeling.

Surprisingly, we have had as many youngsters as adults wanting a tour. One lad about 5 years old asked, "Where could I put all my toys"?
I thought : I guess this is my toy?

I was prepared to have visitors ask to see my little TD. Interestingly, I have only had two actually ask to peek inside. The dog -- another story -- everyone wants to see the dog. I don't think it is because I am unapproachable as I'm talking to someone all the time. Wondered if it might be because I am a single woman, and people don't want to intrude. Also, my TD is just plain jane... no fancy woodwork or painting, no fancy shape or novelty that would draw people in. Have had a few ask questions, but rarely to see....... Hmmmmmm

My subject title would be "no breakfast for the weary" since Fred and I weren't able to make breakfast the first morning of the CRA until after noon because so many people dropped by for a peek. LOL

No matter where I am (gas station, gathering, rest stop, friend's driveway) the first two questions people always ask is:

1. They look at the trailer, then look at me, then look at the trailer, then look at me, then ask "Do you actually fit in there?" Yes. I'm 5'2" and the interior of the trailer is 5'10" long.

2. Followed by "How do you go to the bathroom?" I point to the Thetford porta potty hidden beneath a cute cozy and explain it has a black water tank and a fresh water tank so it flushes just like a home toilet but I only use it for emergencies in the middle of the night.

I don't think there is any such thing as a Plain Jane Teardrop. Every single one is so cool in it's own way. I had a similar experience during my first camping trip. What I realized is that everybody wants to look, but they don't want to impose. I just started taking the first step. Whenever anyone stopped to say hi or ask a question, I'd tell them it's a teardrop and ask "Would you like to see it?" Every single person said yes and had a great time looking inside, at the galley, and talking to their friends about it. Soon the whole campground realized it was okay to see it. I gave 30 to 40 tours that trip. (The campground only had 55 sites).
It's hard to explain, but the whole place felt friendlier which as a lone woman camping, was a real bonus. :FNP

Gotta agree with you, Cheri. Campers are friendly folks. Have met great people on my first few trips!
