Spare tire on rear barn door?

Has anyone mounted their spare tire to the outside of the rear door on a trailer with barn doors? This seems like a good place to me, but I'm concerned about the extra weight on the door. I could make a plate to help distribute the load over a large area of the door, but there will still be extra weight on the door hinges and latch. Any ideas or experience doing this?

I do recall some posts on this topics in the forum. Give the search feature a try and I am sure they will come up.

I think Mt Don did an interior latch on his barn doors to take the weight off from either a tire or an air conditioner. Check out his build.

Seems like if you can spread the load out a little and support the door more from either the top or the bottom it should be okay.

You could also look into a swing out rear tire holder such as those used on vans, Broncos, jeeps, etc.

Good suggestion. I have become familiar with searching on this site over the last few months. Every time I start a new item on my project, I search this forum.
However, I never seem to get many search results or any search results from more than a few months back. Perhaps I am doing something wrong. For instance, if I search "spare tire mount", I only get 10 results and only back to December of 2014. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong using the search function?

Not sure, but I might try various words or phrases.
Here is another trick.
I typed in google the following:
spare tire site:tnttt.com

And many listings from tnttt.com show up. Just substitue any word or phrase for my listed "spare tire".
I have used it many times with interesting success.

Salsa Dog's mount came out really nice. He supported his doors on the inside bottom lip. So that they ride on the floor/jamb and are not bouncing on the hinges.

Thanks, I would like to reiterate the importance of supporting the door to remove any extra weight
from the hinges, particularly when bouncing down roads. I replaced the interior skins and cut a rabbit
on the bottom of each plywood panel. That allowed the skin (panel) to protrude past the door frame
and rest on the door jamb. I just sanded it to gently slide onto the jam when closing. This takes ALL
weight off the hinges; better than new.

One thing we did not expect on our first trip was the amount of attention our cct attracted; acquiring
minds want to know. One woman in a jeep, literally followed us off a highway, onto the forest road
and checked our trailer for about 45 minutes.

When camped on some BLM land by Dinosaur National Monument, I stepped outside in my boxers and
slippers to brush my teeth. I heard a noise and walked around the front of the trailer. A couple with a
fifth wheeler had stopped and were taking pictures of us. They just stayed there, until I decided to walk
over and invite them for coffee. They then drove away; my coffee isn't that bad?
