Screen Door

Hey yall. I have been working on my CTC for a few months now and am thinking I would like a Screen Door... I have seen some build their owns but I was wondering if you can purchase them somewhere that will fit? I have a 6x14 Freedom Trailer. Thanks!

Have you thought about contacting the manufacture of your trailer? Thats where I'd start.

Ya when I ordered the trail the screen door was an extra $500 and to be that's just crazy. I seen other build one with what looks like window screens. Does anyone know how to build those?

You can go to the Home Depot / Lowes and buy a screen window kit that you can make any size you need it has all the parts needed. The only other thing you will need is a piano hinge and some type of latch to hold it closed. Hope this help you. Good luck

Just got back from Sturgis, saw a lot of people using the screen curtains with the magnet closure in the center. Looks like they work well. Something to think about.

I built my own out of a window screen kit and three hinges. Its still going strong, or at least going, after nearly 4 years and more nights than I can count. I'm practically living in the thing from July-October every year!

I used magnetic tape on the door and the doorway for a seal on the side and top. I also secured the tape with some very tiny nails through the tape and into the door trim where its mounted. Some thin weather stripping so nothing can get in, and it closes flush on the floor with my carpet/foam flooring. Easy open and close. Under 50 bucks for kit, tools to roll the screen, magnetic tape, etc.
Prior to making this, I used the screen "curtains" and didn't like them. There was always a gap somewhere, and it was a pain to open/close and walk in and out of.

Nope, its always been magnetic. I wish it opened to the outside instead of inside, but I got what I got for now, and nothing gets in.

On the front door, I used a Magic Mesh screen that costs $14 at Walmart or similar. The screen is a little too long, so I pulled off the top magnet and rolled it a couple of times around a 1x2 that is painted to match the trailer. The 1x2 is a little longer than the screen is wide, so I had room on the ends for a screw. I stapled the Magic Mesh on the sides about 2/3 down so it was easier to go in and out. When the first one needs replacing, I will probably bunch it up just a little to provide some room up top as well. Has worked great for lots of days in the woods. This $14 screen works exactly as described, go through the middle and the magnets automatically close the screen behind you. The dog figured it out the first time in and out. Here is a picture



Since I wanted flow through ventilation without the bugs, I had a screen made for $70 for the rear and attached with Velcro on the top and sides. Here is a picture. Sorry, trailer was a mess when I snapped the pictures, as we had just gotten out of bed and opened the trailer to enjoy the sun while Sandy got ready for the day and made breakfast. Once we arrive at the camp location, we pull the motorcycle out of the trailer, fold down the bed and install the screen. The screen stays in place until it's time to go home, as the rear doors will close without touching the screen. On hot evenings, we leave the doors open and just sleep with the screen in place.



The rear screen is super easy to install, and with the Magic Mesh, we have full screen protection from bugs with a completely open trailer. Here's the link for the company that made the screen.

I've been looking into the screen door thing for a little over a week now. It mystifies me why they are so hard to come by and why they are so danged expensive. A bit of aluminum channel and some screen.

I come to the conclusion that I am going to build my screen door out of wood. I will use something like white oak, laminate some strips so that it is strong where the door is radiused and keep it as light as I can. It should work every bit as good as some aluminum door will. I know, radiused isn't a word but I'm going with it.

I may even make my own hinges. There should be plenty of room for the screen door and I know I can make it so it seals well all the way around. A bigger problem on our trailer is that you can see daylight through the lower corners and hinge area of the access door. Since I noticed that, I am trying to come up with addition sealing in those areas.

Good luck to any of you that are trying to fit your trailer with a screen door. I really do wish you good luck and hope you can find one. As for me, well, I'm going to dig out some oak and give it a go.
