Upper Awning Arm Attachment On Flat Top

Looking to add a Carefree Fiesta 14' awning to a 2014 Forest River/Continental Cargo 16' V. The awning rail will be mounted as high as possible against the roof line to have sufficient side door clearance. Is the upper rail of the substructure sufficient to attach the lag screws for the upper arm brackets ?

I called the factory and they indicated that there is a piece of 2" angle running front to back at both the top and bottom of the trailer. On factory installs they use this area as the attachment points for the rail and the upper and lower arm brackets. Should be good to go as planned.

I ordered a Carefree Fiesta 14' awning and am going to have it installed by an RV service company as the side light also needs lowered. 'll post photos once it comes in and is installed.

I wanted a Carefree Pioneer Lite 10' awning, but I cannot get over the high price. I think I will go to the large RV show in September near Harrisburg, PA with perhaps the naive hope that many there will be someone there selling RV accessories at a good price.

Had the awning installed over the weekend and it came out great. Ended up having sufficient clearance without needing to lower the side light.

I've been looking for an awning for our 16' CTC - similar to yours but with a round top.

I assume the lower mounting bracket is/can be attached directly to the trailer frame. But what about the upper? Is there enough "meat" to simply attach the upper bracket to the roof edge, or did your installer have to add blocking on the inside?

Just curious as attaching a tarp to the side of our trailer is starting to wear a little thin!

The RV Center indicated that they followed Forest Rivers recommendation for attachment into the upper and lower sections of 2" angle.

GCRotorhead, that is a comment which I will turn into a question. I liked the awning you have, but at my height and age, there is no way I could manage (open and close) it without moving a step ladder along the awning. And I really do not want to carry a ladder with me.

How do you set it up and put it away it in the field?
