Newbie from TN

Postby BigDaddysTravels » Wed Sep 02, 2015 8:13 pm

Hello Everyone,
I was a lurker for a long time and about a month ago I pulled the trigger and purchased a teardrop. I would love to have built one but I just don't have the time and didn't want to use my time building when I wanted to be enjoying. I will spend my extra time just upgrading my Hiker teardrop. I have several things I would like to do to it. For now I am glad I purchased it. I went to Denver Colorado from TN to pick it up and spent a few days in Colorado (its beautiful there). I came home for a day and caught up with work stuff then packed up my son and headed to Destin Fl for a week at the beach at a state park with campsites. I had more people (including a few park rangers) come by and check out my teardrop, more than the guys driving in the rolling motels. I get lots of questions about the teardrop and love the attention. :) I have taken it out twice at Land Between the Lakes and done some back country camping. I like being off the beaten path and I am going to get a Honda generator soon to run a ClimateRite system. I want to tour a lot of the country in my teardrop. I pull it with a 2015 VW Passat TDI and I lost about 15 mpg when pulling the teardrop so now I get around 35mpg when pulling.

I do have a question: Why is it that when people buy these huge RVs and go to campsites they never go outside? I thought that was part of camping......

Welcome to the forum.
Why is it that when people buy these huge RVs and go to campsites they never go outside?

I always thought it was because they spent lots of money on tow vehicle and big trailer for 2 weeks of "Camping" a year so they have to maximize the time inside it to justify.

Earlier this summer we were is a KOA in Tacohma, WA, it was selected because it was a convenient location to met up with my cousin. We were parked between several big rigs in a pull through site. My kids wondered why everyone in the campground including the local full time RVers came up and talked to us. I asked my kids to look around and did they ever see anyone else from the bigger RVs out. They then understood. Also usually no one wants a tour of a big RV but I am always giving tours of the teardrop everywhere I go.

The teardrop with out side galley is the best of both worlds. Comfortable sleeping and convenient organization but still cooking and eating outdoors.

Happy Camping

Yes, we have made the same observation!
But, on the bright side.....you never have to wait for a shower, as the Large RVers don't use the provided washroom facilities in these RV Parks.'
It is like have a "Cozy" Private Bedroom with your own "Huge" Private Bathroom!

Hello Neighbor. We are just down the road from you. You will enjoy your trailer and yes as you have already found, people do like to look at them. Hope to see you at a gathering sometime. :)
