I learned a painful lesson today and I'd like to share in the hopes that others can avoid it. Carpenter ants have an affinity for blue styrofoam insulation. I had the blue board on my utility trailer awaiting installation. Last evening I noticed blue dust under the trailer. The pic below is what we found when we pulled the sheets apart this morning. 6 sheets are total garbage and another 5 have less severe damage. What a waist. Oddly enough, I had 3 sheets of 1" poly-iso next to them and they were untouched. We sorted out the good sheets and I returned them for poly-iso. We spent some time today treating the area for ants and will now continue to do so until winter strikes. Needless to say we were very upset and the budget took a good hit.

I talked with the guys at work yesterday about the ant issue. I work at a firehouse so there's a endless wealth of knowledge . One suggestion was Boric acid. If I put it down often and for a while, they will hopefully find another route and another food source.
My main concern would be that they get into the walls after they are finished. That would be a bad deal.

I've been insulating for a few days now and I guess it's going pretty smoothly. It certainly isn't as fast as other ways of doing the job. I'm hopeful that we will be comfortable with what I can fit in the spaces and with dilligence be bug free.
We will have R20 in the ceiling and R13.5 in the walls. With such a small space we should be good.

The 12v wiring rough in is going well. Today finished up with everything done except for one hot wire...20' short on wire. I had bought a couple of spools of #10 and I was holding my breath while checking the longest run for line loss. Maybe a couple hundreths of a volt lost. Sigh of relief!
Next I'll finish putting nailers in and the last 1" of insulation in the walls. Then we are ready for 1/4 plywood for the interior walls. Maybe by the weekend. Fingers crossed.

The day ended with all wiring and insulation complete. The truck is loaded with 1/4" plywood for the walls. I've got to work the next two days so i'll start that project on sunday.

The plywood is done for the most part. After the shower is installed the bath will get finished. The water heater is roughed in and i'm pretty happy with it's location. There weren't many options for where to mount it and I wasn't able to get it far enough from all the windows, but we'll deal with it. After a few more small plywood pieces get put on the walls I'll be ready to start working on the ceiling.
An extended period without rain sure has made construction work easier. I don't mind working in 90 degrees with humidity, but cutting anything with power tools is not good in the rain so i'm thankful.
As we finish jobs I am getting more of a feel for how best to lay out the kitchen area. I think it's gonna be real nice.

Just noticed your build thread yesterday and have read through it now. Good work! I will join the happy audience to see how this project pans out. I built a trailer last year, and I feel that a tiny house is in my future- it's always satisfying to see someone else succeed at it.

My buddy (heating and plumbing guy) came today and got the grey water drain system done and also the water lines. All the water is run through Pex. I love that stuff! If I had a propane tank I could shower in it tonight. We will wait though. I don't want to do any living in the tiny house until it is complete.

Third try at this post...the first two trys were much wordier but failed so here's the short version.
Built stairs today. Happy with how they turned out. Wife approves, dogs will not. The backside will be storage with a battery enclosure in the bottom. Risers will be painted and treads poly'ed.
