World cup starts in 2 Days

Postby GeorgeTelford » Wed Jun 07, 2006 5:57 pm

Really looking forward to it, I am not generally a soccer follower, but I always enjoy the world cup.

Any soccer fans here (keep wanting to say football, but you lot have a strange game thats something like rugby but with body armour and forward passing and that only Americans seem to play)

George,

I'm not much into soccer but I do have a nephew graduating high school next week that loves playing the game, he's heading to UCLA in the fall and hopes to play for the school.

Wasn't there a Canadian football league? Or is it my imagination?

The EPL (English Premiere League) and World Cup are some of the main reasons I have a 13" flat screen and DirecTv hooked up to my Teardrop. :D

Naturally I pull for the underdogs, Go Wigan!, and teams with Americans playing for them, Fulham (McBride), Birm City (Reyna) and Blackburn Rovers (Friedel). :applause:

And I love anyone who can whoop Chelsea and Man U. :chicken: :chicken:
Until they go up against Europe......

And before the World Cup finishes it will time for the Tour Less Lance, July 1. :P

I have the full World Cup schedule set and so is my Tivo... :tipsy: :dancing :dancing

Always reminded me of a fancy game of kick ball that people actually pay to watch. It's right up there with basketball on my list of things not to watch.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one Nitetimes ( sorry George ), It's right up there with watching grass grow in my books.
Still, that's what makes this forum so interesting, The varied likes and dislikes away from T or TTT's.

Cheers

One benefit of the World Cup, for those not interested in it, is it makes a great time to do other things. Four years ago, I travelled the length of Britain while 'we' were playing Germany - there were so few vehicles on the road (this is on the main north-south highway for the whole country) that we drivers were waving to each other as we passed!

Not a soccer fan but have nieces and nefews that play and a huge UCLA fan in Sun Devil country. I also saw on ESPN that there seams to be a lot of racial tensions coming from the German fans with the Hitler salute and swasticas. Whats up with that.

I would watch soccer if they allowed everyone to use their hands.

Now rugby--THERE'S a European sport I can appreciate!

Its one of the few times I watch soccer, I am not much into watching the league stuff, only the major championships.

Its like that with me on Athletics etc I always watch the Olympics, but will not watch that kind of sport generally.

Heh Paul

No need for apology

Do you like Aussie rules football? only seen a few games and dont "get" all of the rules, but thats a great spectator sport ( its a contact sport like American footbakll, but they think protection is for sissies except for a gum shield which is considered essential )

I'm not a big (American) football fan, mostly into baseball (Yankees!), but…

What a lot of people don't realize about our football is the size and speed of these guys. You have to see a game in person.

They are literally GIANTS doing these amazingly fast and agile maneuvers. When you watch it on TV, you just don't get the proper perpective of their size OR speed.

...I tried getting in touch with the World Cup folks with a plan to make soccer infinitely more interesting to watch but they have so far ignored my attempts to contact them...they will be sorry...

I've played all three and rugby is by far the toughest, being in a scrum with no pads... I've had my share of recieving and giving slobber-knockers.

I like soccer. I played every sunday until last September when I tore my groin and ended my season 1 week before it started $75.00 down the drain. I am still not 100% yet. I just hope I can catch some of the cup games this year.
