New, very rustic, teardrop.

]I spent the last couple weeks working on a teardrop. It was kind of a last minute idea for a trip to southern California (from Wisconsin) next week. We are going to load it into a dump trailer and ride out there with family. Once out there they will be loading up their trailer with stuff that was left behind when them moved and we will be getting a vehicle out there and camp out in southern CA and a few spots on the way back.

The original plan was to build a "cabin" that was as light as possible and as cheap as possible to bolt on to (and be removable from) a harbor freight trailer I have. The removable part may not happen. It is only 6 bolts but then the lights and fenders have to be put back on as well so it wont be quick to do.

Right now I have about $150 into it and it weighs under 300 pounds(two men can pick it up pretty easy, the cabin not the trailer as well.)

From the back side. When the hatch is up it has 6'3" headroom. Also shows the sawmill in the background where all the lumber was cut for camper.

The side. Shows the live edge siding and galvanized roof. Has tarp sides when hatch is up and back wall is down.

Showing the side profile. When the hatch is down it follows the bottom edge of the tarp and looks like a pretty traditional teardrop shape.

The electric system will be a 12 volt battery with a cigarette lighter plug wired to it and a surge protector with a 50 foot cord as well as a battery operated radio and several battery operated tap lights. The plumbing will be a bucket.

The kitchen will be set up so it can be used as a regular teardrop, just lift the hatch and there it is (don't lower the rear wall or side walls. The rear wall can be folded down and the kitchen could still be used by reaching through the door or from the inside. The entire kitchen unit will be able to taken apart into three pieces and hung on the outside side wall or inside side wall so in bad weather it can be used like in a traditional stand up camper and in nice weather it can be used outside.

The idea is to keep it as simple as possible.

Showing the tarp sides from inside. They let in a lot of light. I still plan to put in windows. One on each side and one in door as well as one on passenger side tarp side.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of thing/places that are cheap/free in southern California I'd like to hear about them. So far on our list is the Salton Sea, Big Bear, lake mead/grand canyon/hoover dam and on the way back to camp out in the mountains of Colorado.
