Registration

We live in central Florida and are gathering up info to start building our first teardrop. Can anyone tell me the process to get a title and register the trailer?

Are you building from scratch, making the frame as well as everything else, or are you starting with a factory built trailer, like a HF, NT or other?

The kit or ready to roll variety should come with a certificate of origin that will satisfy the DMV. They issue a title on that basis aong with the bill of sale.

Home built means more paperwork, retaining receipts for the purchase of all major components like frame steel, axle, etc. Filling out forms. Maybe getting inspected. Varies from state to state as to the details and requirements.

Your best bet is to go to your local DMV as it may vary from DMV location. Tell them what you are planning and what you will need to provide them to make the licensing and titling process as easy as possible. If they want receipts, they will want their own copy, so just copy them all off from the get go. I would not use the term "home built"....use custom built, as the title may contain that term and it will be better on the resale if that happens. In Ca, it will show as special construction. As mentioned, if it's a manufactured/kit frame it's going to be different than if it's a custom frame. Just what I've experienced. Doug
