Position of the breaker box?

Does a breaker box HAVE to be mounted the "usual" way?

Ya know, upright, cover hinge at the top, blah blah...

Any "rules" that I can break and mount my box flat on the floor?

Acceptable? OK? Absolute NO-NO, now get in the penalty box?

I would say keep it on a wall & off the floor. If you trailer was to leak, the idea of having the electrical on the foor would put you at more risk.

That is just my thoughts.

I am putting mine inside the cabin area on the front closet wall. Then again I am only going 12v.

...other than the rain/spilt water thing, I dn't see why not...but the possible wet thing is a good reason..........

Beyond the obvious reasons mentioned, having it on a wall tends to prevent things from being set/put on top of it.

Connections in a breaker box can become loose/corroded and arc, causing heat which can potentially set other things on fire.

If buried under "things" it can be difficult to access when needed.

Codes not withstanding (which don't apply to most here anyway) it would work, but depending on the location, and potential use of the space it occupies, it may or may not be practical.
Wires should be in conduit if the box is on the floor, for their protection.
(For sure, don't put it under a mattress )

I put my breaker box in my tongue box where my shore cable comes into the trailer. But, then, my galley is in the front and my converter is located in the galley cabinet, near the tongue box.

Up north where we have basements! The house electrical breaker panels are on the basement outside wall, where it can get damp, with no major problems. You just don’t want it where it will sit in a puddle. The same type of breakers work in outer space where there is no up or down. The only difference to their breakers is they are in an explosion proof enclosures and they cost a lot more. So just mount it off the floor where it is convenient for you. And you don't get shocked.
