New Design for family

Postby Tychi15 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 3:45 pm

Hi folks I'm looking to start a new build with a friend that has a family of 4. the kids are 1 and 2 so they don't need much room yet. We are looking to build a 5 by 10 any ideas and designs that would fit his family would be great. What has the most space for sleeping and storage with the ability to still have a galley in the back. Pics of yours would be great if your willing.
Thanks y'all 8)

I've been impressed with this slide-out kid bed:

Just a thought. What if you have no cabinets(just removable bins and bags on rods) and have the upper galley wall fold down when not in use to make a (50"?) wider bunk for two kids. The kitchen bins could be moved to your car(kid's seats) when it is bed time. You could also do a fold down or pullout counter for the galley with just a thin cabinets right to the galley hatch.
So you would have queen size stepped bunk beds and still have some storage at your feet in the galley. 8)

While I did not build my trailer it does work well for those with small kids.

I have the CampInn 560 Teardrop which has a queen size bed for adults and then a small couch that can convert into small bunk bed like setup for small kids (under 5 feet) and does not impact the adult mattress. If you look through the images in my signature link, you wills see I have one picture of the bunks set up.
There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't.

Since mine was referenced, I will chime in with my experience with small kids. (My kids are 5 and 2)
You say they don't need much space, but mine use quite a bit of space. They are typically excited while camping, so they may not take up much space physically. But by the time you account for their movement, they take up a lot of space.
The slide out bed that was mentioned, originally I was hoping to have both of my kids sleep there. It should be wide enough if they sleep perfectly still.
Obviously that does not happen, so that 5 years old sleeps there and 2 year old sleeps with us on the main floor. It is working for now.

Another design decision turned out to be a good decision was to have a extra headroom. It is high enough for us to sit and move around comfortably.
There were days and nights that were too cold or too wet and we were forced to spend extended time inside. We are able to eat and play inside without being on top of each other.

Not the best picture, but you get what I'm talking about.

I posted a lot of pictures on my build thread and have bunch more if you need specific area.
