In/out the high trailer doors

Postby Eileen k. » Wed Oct 21, 2015 7:40 pm

Hi,
Cubs are losing, so I have time to ask a question. My trailer doors
seem higher than most...use a footstool to climb, turn around
and sit/scoot in. The bottom rim of the door hurts/leaves bruises on
the back of my thighs. Used a pillow, slit a pool noodle and
sandwiched it on the bottom rim...didn't work well. Can leave the
door open...have a tent attached. Any suggestions??

My doors are the same. When I put in the mattress in it 'lifted the floor' and made it easier to get out. My wife is shorter than me so I made a step for her. The step does double duty as a cooler holder for the tongue when it is turned over.

You probably climb in through the door but sit to get out. If you can climb out backwards you may find it works well.

I got a Rubbermaid step stool. It makes it easy to walk in and turn around and walk out my door. Maybe it would work for you, too.

This one is a bisque color; but, you can also get it in black:

(Mine is a walk-in. If yours is one with the mattress on the floor, please discount this post.)

I put a 3 inch memory foam topper on my factory mattress and this brought the "floor" up enough that the door edge no longer cut into my legs upon entry and exit. Made for some really good sleeping as well.

Here is what I did. Please ignore the lack of craftsmanship, it does the job.

Here is the step turned upside down for a cooler holder on the tongue.

Tom, Sharon and Franke,
Thanks so much for your suggestions. I like the Rubbermaid
Step stool...will give it a try. Have a 10" mattress in there
already, but still feel the bottom door rim. Steve laughs we
sink into the mattress like quicksand...but the mattress is
very comfortable. It's a learning process...but what fun! Eileen
