if splicing and not using additional framing, I would put the splice at the top. it might not matter, but that is just me. they also sell 5'x5' Burch plywood. you may be able to find a cabinet builder or cabinet/wood supply shop in your area.i also agree 4' is a bit low. the inside height of my ttt is 5'6".

If you want it 5' tall...just buy a 2 sheets of 5'x10' plywood.
I personally would not be worrying so much about the height but more about the width???
5' wide is a must if you plan on having the little woman spend the night with you in this new unit.
Miss Piggy only has 38' above the mattress to the headliner. And that is plenty.

I don't understand what an extra foot above your head will give you? You still can't stand up. My first Teardrop was a 4-wide. Number two is a 5-wide. That's a big deal.

okay, guys not to worried on width as I am going to be with in two inches of 6 foot wide.

new teardrop is going to be a 5 foot and `10 inch wide teardrop. or 5" 10".


angie at walk the winds was really impressed by a guy from colorado's teardrop last summer in which it was a four by eight sheet of plywood put on top the frame of the teardrop.

I don't think I would go over 5 foot tall.

I am just really wandering right now if 4 foot is tall enough?

alos this is a kampmaster so there is standing room with in inches of the bed. the teardrop part of the body is just over the bed.

I will admit, I a total noob, but I've been 6'1" as long as I can remember and a 5 high is what I'm building , after a period of much thought and research . A 4 high just won't do it for me. I do like the minimalistic approach, bit with 4 ppl in it, I like the room for sanity sake as we'll.

I still can't stand up, but I can sit on my knees, something I can't do comfortably in a 4 high.

Mock it up and build what you like. That's what I'm doing, 6 wide 5 high, 10 1/2 long bow front. Gonna have to splice, but no biggie. 5 wide plywood is non existent around this area .

In the end, it will still be much lighter and easier to pull and setup than almost other style of camper (popup)

That was what my point to Slow was. On my first trailer I felt the extra space inside would make me more comfortable. It does allow for more cabinet space and a larger galley, but that was not worth it. So the second time I built a 4'high trailer. A 5' high trailer with a drop floor will allow shorter people to stand up. One of my trailers with a 5' side and a drop floor had a 57" inside height.

So I'm piggy backing off of this because I'm at a similar juncture.
I'm about to do a full-scale sketch up of the framing of the walls. This will also give me a better idea of placement of the wires and plumbing.
I'm going a bit nuts and planning to build up to 5'6" high on a Wild Goose/Kampmaster style. This is so I can have a convertable kitchen table/bed in the front with cabinets (and a bit of headroom while seated.)
Otherwise it'll be about 6'6 wide and about 8' long.
the plan is to join sheets of plywood with a shiplap joint.
Is this bonkers?
My tow vehicle is an F150 with a 5.4l V8 so i'm not terribly concerned about weight or size.

Mine is 5' tall, 10' long, 5'4" wide. These are interior dimensions, at the most extreme points. I wanted one that I could comfortably sit up inside, wide enough for a queen bed or regular bed with side room and long enough to have the bed behind the door and a floor space for my dog. I got all that and more. I also have forward cabinets and a slide-out galley that stores under the bed when traveling. Total weight loaded is 1,340#. I tow with a 2004 F150 5.4 and at 65 mph the trailer reduces my normal gas mileage by just under 1 mpg. I would never do a 4' tall, but that is just my opinion. Probably the only size I would even consider reducing would be the width.

I had to build mine just a tiny bit higher than four foot because I haul a motorcycle sometimes. I use it as a camper too and found the distance from the bed to the ceiling can be quite allot lower than four feet. I've even sat in a regular chair inside but that was just for fun. I'm 6' amd I can't stand so I crawl and would need much more than a foot higher to be significant. I found windows and a door I can prop open helps with that closed in feeling.
