Charger or converter?

Postby atcNick » Fri Oct 30, 2015 8:37 am

I've got a cargo trailer w/30amp 120vac. I'm adding a size 24 battery to power a 12v water pump for a sink only, no shower. And a winch. I'm trying to figure out if I should get a converter, battery charger, or battery tender?

This is a competition BBQ trailer that will be used about 36 hours at a time with occasional use of the water pump during that time and maybe 3-4 minutes of total use time on the winch. While trailer is in use it will be connected to shore power.

Help is appreciated!

Since even the Coke chargers are close to $100 I'd get a progressive dynamics 45 amp charger (or bigger)
http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-Dynam ... B000GANZZ6

http://www.progressivedyn.com/power_con ... _9200.html

To give an example, when I dry camp and can only run a generator for a couple hours a day there's no way a small 4 amp charger could ever work. Would only put 4amp hours every hour back into my batteries

With the 60, I can stay on top,of my dual, batteries and run everything I need with no,issue

This could work as well,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131519107633?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
Gives the option for future expansion of 12v and 120 circuits. You may want to add indoor/outdoor work lights, fridge, A/C, that kind of stuff in the future as the prize money and trophies pile up. As far as the winch goes, I think you need a relay, then to the battery. Those are high amp units.
Good Luck with your Q.

Need to know amp draw on the pump and winch.... Since you're probably recovering a few racks of ribs and not a 4x4 Suburban, I'd guess you could get away with a smaller charger then do a full charge on the drive home.

My group 24 still has plenty of juice by the time I have to refill the 21 gallon water tank.

@ atcNick,
Yea, I just called the seller and they "revised" the listing to no longer include the breakers. They are having trouble finding breakers for these (china) so what are the chances I'll be able to find them? PLEASE DO NOT ORDER THIS CONVERTER. sorry for the bad info. If it seems too good to be true.....

In the first photo those are standard Cutler-Hammer breakers as might be found in your home...your local home improvement store should have them or a comparable fit.

@ Doublacola,
If that is a functional unit I'd be interested. What type/model is that ?

It's a WFCO model FP-01 WF-8900 series

It came out of a 2011 Kz Sportsman 21' that a tree fell on 2yrs ago.

It was operating when I pulled it out.

If your still interested send me an address and I'll get shipping costs.

There's one on ebay identical to this one for $130

Thanks
