1946 Teardrop Sighting

Postby RunnerDuck » Wed Nov 04, 2015 12:53 pm

My brother, who lives in Northern California, spotted what appeared to be a TD under a tarp. He knocked on the door and asked the elderly owner if he could peek under the tarp. He did and here are a few photos. :pictures:

The hatch on the right is the ice box.

Any idea what it might be? The owner couldn't find the title at the moment so he didn't know and there doesn't appear to be any identification on the trailer.

I doubt that he'll ever bring it back to life, we can only hope he sells it or his estate does, when he dies, to someone who would love to take on a project like this.

It's a Kit alright.

Looks very similar to a 1947 that pulled in next to us at the Ocean Tears Gathering this past summer.
It should have an identifying tag inside on the right door.

P.S. This teardrop has been in the same family since it was new.

'47 or 48 Kit Sportsmaster. By the looks of the giant rod bolted thru both sides it must have been coming apart and will probably need a complete teardown.

What part of Northern CA is it in? There should be a manufacturers plate on the front tongue. Definitely a KIT.

Wow ... Ft. Bragg! Thought that might have been Red Burke's old KIT for a moment, but then I remembered that his was a KIT Deluxe, with the 'glass fenders. That part of CA seems to be a hotbed for old KITs, as we got our all-original '47 model out of Mendocino back in July of '13 ... ...!

Here's my 47 with 1956 California license plates. The lightning bolt above the door was added but the blue scallop at the front is original. I believe I see a touch of the same color on the compartment lid under the hatch.

I'm trying to see if I can't get more pictures and information on it as I'm sure a number of you are very curious, as am I.

Stay tuned,

Yep, definitely "Kit Manufacturing". While I'm new to the "Teardrop" game and don't know everything most of you all know and the different sites available, I did find this website and thought it was quite interesting.
