Thanks for Having me ......

Postby Gr8lite » Thu Nov 12, 2015 3:54 pm

Good Day all !

I have always been a fan of the small camper , at one point we had a really nice pop-up camper (just too fancy) so we always found ourselves going back to the good old canvas tent(s). I have / had many from 1 man to GP large !

However now that we have 2 18 year old just about out of the house , we find ourselves yearning to NOT sleep on the ground!
But we don't want a camper. We'll be towing with either a Jeep Wrangler or a Saab Wagon. I have been planning this build for a couple 3 or 5 years in my head. I was going to base the build on a 8'x8' snowmobile trailer I had built a few years ago. I just scored a couple nice trailers from a friend. One of them is a Jet Ski trailer 6' wide 9' long with a loooong tongue. I will be building my unit on that trailer. I can do all the metal work myself, welding , cutting , machining, etc..... however I am not a very patient or skilled carpenter.

So please bear with me on this project .........

Again Thanks for letting me hang around!

Welcome to TNTTT. Can't wait to see what you put together. Remember to take lots of pictures. (unlike me who gets so focused and forgets to take a single one until the end of the day)
Cheers,
Scott

Hi Gr8lite,
Welcome aboard ...
:shake hands:

Did I miss something ... Are you going to forego the wood entirely and build your entire trailer out of metal ... I can see the frame and structure, and even the siding, but what about the cabinets and interior??
:?

Can't wait to see your ideas and pics of the build ...

Miss Piggy's Galley is constructed entirely out of steel and aluminum except the wine rack and the drawer sides (3 of the 4 pieces of wood in MP) other one being the tool box lid.
She weighs less than most wooden Teardrops!

tHANKS aLL !

I thought about doing the frame work in 1" angle iron , but strength to weight I think a glues and screwed wood frame will win out !

May try to start the project during December or Jan. Gotta get thru hunting season......

Hi Brian & Sandi,
I did not realize the galley build was also metal ... an extremely nice job and fitting of pieces ...

Thanks John
But we shouldn't be stealing Tom's Thread here.
