Hey, that's looking much better than it looked like it would. Judging from your "before" pic I thought we would see pitting.

Looks like you did a nice job.

Now time to get some rust encapsulating primer/paint on there, or give it a good going over with a phosphate treatment.

So why are you grinding if you are getting everything sandblasted?
Sandblasting is the best money you can spend! Then find as good of "Direct to Metal" Epoxy or Epoxy Primer.
Enjoy your build. And thanks for the pictures. :applause:

Yea. My first plan was to sandblast it but I send a request to a sandblasting firm and they wanted near 350 dollars for it. To much for me.

So I determined to grind it of my self. And its more fun to be able to say I have done it all my self. :D

I'm gonna use Hamerite Metalpaint on all metal on the camper. Its a rust encapsulating paint that will stand for almost anything.

Naval Jelly! It's a phosphoric acid which will stop rust once it's applied & rinsed off with water, prior to painting. Works for sea boats, should work for the frame. You may need a heater of some type to dry the water & make things right before priming.

The time you spend planning is more important than the time you spend building.........

Thanks for the tip. But I dont think I will need it when I use Hammerite. Hammerite it self stops the rust. :D

Nothing Stops Rust! :R
It has to be removed.
Products like Rust Mort just neutralize it ....but the acids they contain just lay under your paint until they gas and blow the paint or filler off. :(
Yes, $350.00 was too much for that much blasting. I would shop around $75.00 to $100.00 is more in line for a chassis this size.
And there is no way to justify wire wheeling or grinding a trailer chassis to save that much.
Just my professional opinion, as we do this every day.

Don't attempt to buy or rent a sandblaster and do it yourself either; or you will learn the hard way why you stayed in school. :D

Who said I staid in school? :?

I have a sandblasting cabinet and the tools in the garage so I can sandblast, but not for a frame. Its to big. And outside its to cold and whet now so I have to grind it of instead or I will have sand all over the garage. But i'm gonna sandblast all the smaller parts my self.

Yea rust is kinda pain in the but. So I maybe have to check out an alternative to get rid of the sh** better then just grinding. Gonna check out that Naval Jelly and see if we have something like it here.

I haven't played with electrolysis but for those small parts you might give it a whirl:

Hi Tony
The small parts are not an issue for Vikingen, as he has a Beadblast or Sandblast Cabinet.
And as for electrolysis rust removal? I am not a fan.
Before I had a Beadblast cabinet, I tried numerous methods to remove rust from small parts.....draino, oxisol, electrolysis, wire wheel, etc etc....and the worst of the worst... Soda blasting!!
Imbedding salt into the surface of your metal is just a BAD idea right from the get go! :x
Sandblasting is just the easiest and most effective method of restoring surface rusted metal.
And the reason why commercial blasters are worth their weight in gold. Air volume vs abrasive material is the trick.
You want large CFM, less pressure, and as little abrasive as possible.
Also technique is very important, especially when blasting thinner tin.
A good blaster can give you back your piece in what we call a 'White Blast stage" which is ready for a direct to metal paint or primer.
And no matter if you are gathering your sand with tarps for re use or just letting it fly......it is a messy process that your wife won't appreciate in your yard, garden or driveway.
