Re: Kermit

Postby Vedette » Tue Nov 10, 2015 11:05 am

After another "nothing" week! :( I finally got out there on the weekend (tried to ignore football) and had some time in the shop all by myself.
Got re acquainted with Kermit and figured out just where I left off 8 months ago.
Trial fit the 49 International KB1 cab on the front. worked out even better than I had envisioned....but measurements never lie.
I knew it would fit! Just a matter of knowing where it needed to be cut.
Now it was time to look at the holes that were left to fill   and find a car part to fit.
A quick walk out back to the stock pile, and I came back with some ideas. ;)
I have a 1947 Oldsmobile hood that will give up some nice curved pieces for the transition area between the 49 KB1 cab and the 1938 Dodge rear section, and a 1973 VW Van trunk lid that will serve a dual purpose (cut in half the top will make the two transition pieces from the 1949 KB1 to the 1947 Chev....and the bottom will be shortened and mated to the 1938 trunk lid to complete my tongue box lid and give me a more modern latching system.)
Amazing  what you can come up with when you have consumed enough stimulation!
What a Great Weekend! :R
I am Back!

Here is the back of a 1949 International KB! cab (or at least as much as I need to use for the lower front portion of Kermit)

Here is what the front view will sorta look like.137500137501
Note: there is some side work to do, and the trunk opening will be enlarged.

It still amazes me that you think doing all of this metal work is easier than learning how to be a wood worker! (That's a compliment, BTW.)

I have just enough sheet metal fabricating skills to know that what you are doing is not as easy as you make it look!

Truly, it is nice to see your creative vision bringing all of those disparate shapes into one homogeneous form. :applause:

Keep going.

Thanks KC
Today I hope to trim and tack the lower front piece in place. This will allow me to cut the trunk lid opening.
Trunk will be shortened to where you see the bar that crosses above the tongue.
The trunk lid will be a little bit of a challenge, as I will use the original 38 Dodge lid for the upper portion (which has been shortened and detached from the inner skin) with the lower 6" of a VW Bus engine compartment lid narrowed and grafted to the 38 lid. Then the inner skin will be modified and re attached. All of this because I liked the VW latch and button????? :?
Does the front look like a "Camp Inn" trailer?

Other than a very slight similarity in the shape of the windows, I would have to say absolutely not, and by far!
