Today is was 36'F and no snow.. so I cut the 'hatch' hole..

Remember to 'blue tape' the edges for like 3 strips to prevent jug saw chatter and marking your trailers paint.. I also taped the bottom of the jig saw..

This is the 1 1/2" x 1/8" thick AL angle channel. Not done yet totally but I started framing it out.. Very rigid stuff.

This will be bolted/screwed to the floor with 2 small AL pieces and up top to the top of door frame with 2 more small AL pieces..

I the hatch inner flange (there is 2" of depth and about 3/4" overlap) onto the AL..

Image

Hatch installed.. with butyl tape and 11 white SS screws..

Test fit of A/C thru hatch.. I will have the hatch supported off the A/C top vents so it will breathe properly..

I did not do the external AL channel (yet) that will bolt thru to the inner pieces of AL for even more rigidity.

Overall I am feeling happy.. I can do the AL inside the trailer anytime and just run the heater.. 8)

I got some more 2x3 and seated them inside the AL for extra support (though I don't think I need it if the door is not carrying the A/C while moving)

2 verticals holding the horizontal under the edge to the floor, and 2 along both sides of the hatch as well.. the top horizontal will be bolted as well..

Basically a frame..

Image

Still need to bolt 'that' door shut with a slide latch into the bottom frame... in case I want to open the other one..

Also need to do the brackets up top and also at bottom for the AL channel to tie it all together.. but feeling mostly done..

:applause:

I finished the 'frame' enough for me..

Image

I put my full size futon in also.. I have a 31" walkway from side to rear back door.. (when the 'genny' is outside)..

Image

I also put a drop slide bolt into the rear 'driver side' door to keep it pinned shut if I happen to open the rear 'passenger side' door. (no pics sorry).

I ordered a replacement barrel lock for the cargo hatch.. turned out to be 1 1/8" type..

Thinking this build is about done..

Thanks...

I did some small framing on the back 'hatch'.. added 3/4" plywood to the bottom edge with wingnuts (on permanent screws) to help with quick install of the window A/C..

Image

I double checked for gaps today and have none..

Also heres a pic of the tongue as it sits (don't mind the old ppane tank)..

Note the break-a-way kit cable (though not used as I got no brakes on this yet)..

Besides the center post holding the tank (with 1 1/2" ABS which is bolted to the top of the battery box for balance). I will be using self tapping screws into the bottom ring on the tank thru the mount..
