I saw one at a gathering that was like a clam shell. It had permanent sides fixed to the galley that opened with the galley. Then there was a folding door I believe on the end where you walked in. It was sort of a double side in that there was an overlap when closed of the sides. I saw it at CICO a couple years ago. I'll see if I can dig up a picture.

Doing a clamshell top on an un-modified Kampmaster design would not work, as the sides would stick through the ground when the roof was down, which would make towing hard.

One way round this is to make the side panels completely removable - if they are made of 1/4" ply with light framing and a couple of good handles, you could just pick them up and store them inside when towing.

That is essentially what I'm doing with my pop-up project. I am replacing all the canvas on a Jayco 1006 with lightweight sandwich panels made of luan paneling on two sides and 3/4 foam board in the middle. The panels will be portable, stored inside during towing, and will lock in place on all four sides when the top is raised. The bed, galley, and a small two-person dinette will be totally inside the main shell and there will be no outrigger beds on the ends.
