New member from Oregon

Postby wildcatphotography » Wed Jan 06, 2016 6:24 pm

Hi, I am not a builder, but I love all the ideas I've been reading. Retired, I've had my Little Guy Five Wide for almost a year and have done some short trips up the coast of Oregon, a longer one into Washington, and a week long across Oregon to the east end.

Welcome! My 5x8 was built in Eugene, OR...so we are neighbours or something, eh?

I'm like you, some shorter, local camping type trips so far but I will tell you this....I am sure looking forward to doing some serious camping in Oregon.
The State parks and the scenery, etc I saw when I went down to pick my tear up were first rate.

Hi, I'm already a member of Tear Jerkers. But I don't know which is best place to post pictures.

I'm about halfway between Eugene and the coast, out in the bushes.

I apologize for any misunderstanding, I thought that the NW TJ site might post more outings in that general area, giving you more opportunity to get out with other TD owners ...

You can post both sites if you like; I don't think it matters, I see folks posting on both, including yours truly...

You can also post pics on one site in a personal gallery and link it to the other site... You choice ...

The main thing is to get out camping, have lots of fun, and post pics for us... :pictures: :pictures:

AZ Desert Rat and Metaxa -- I have pretty much stayed in Oregon State campgrounds. They are more spendy than I like. The Wal-Marts say no overnight camping in their parking lots, but one night, I stayed until 11:30 p.m. so wasn't overnight. Some of the casinos have cheaper parking or free. But I like the State campgrounds for having proper toilets and showers. Probably, the cleanest, nicest, and least expensive I've seen was at Hells Canyon, the ones that are kept by Idaho Power--but there isn't much privacy, no bushes in between spaces. I'll be putting some pictures in an album soon, although I did not photograph campgrounds.

Just a tip.
Re: Walmart camping?
We use walmarts all the time when it suits our travel needs.
Those signs that say there is no overnight camping are usually there because of a city ordinance or bylaw. Or for insurance purposes.
There is always a section where the RV's and truckers stop to sleep, they have security cameras, and sometime overnight security personnel.
The 24 hour Walmarts are the best because the washrooms are open all night, and you can stock up your cooler and buy your daily provisions.
We give Walmart

Does Wash or Oregon offer an Annual Park Pass... I think Minnesota Parks are spendy and purchased an Annual Pass last year and it offers considerable savings for stays in Minnesota State Parks (about 1/2 off) and I also purchased an "Old Guy" Federal Recreation Life pass that offers great savings as well... It allowed us to travel through Yellow Stone and Teton Nation Parks FREE last year and camping is greatly reduced as well...

Have you checked on these and Do Wash and/or Oregon offer State Park passes... ??? :NC

Yes, the Walmart thing is partly at least city ordinance. The one I partly stayed at, they told me I might get asked to leave. This one is open 24 hours in summer only. It bothers me to park right in front of a sign, and they had dozens of signs up. I might try it again this summer. There were three other RVS for a while, but they seemed to move on. In the middle of the night, I ambled on to a state park and quietly picked out a pull through spot and left about daylight. I should have stayed long enough to cook breakfast perhaps. I already was familiar with the park, which helped.

Yes, there are passes for state parks but for day use only in Oregon and Washington. And they don't give any breaks to old folks, but I will check into it again, since I am officially old folks now. I pay $50 for two years to park in day use lots, but I'm only 30 miles from the coast and stop in reasonably often. I have the America the Beautiful pass but I haven't attempted to use it for camping yet.

Yes the state parks are reasonably nice. The ones at the coast have lots of sal-al and brush between the spaces. And some of the others are not bad for a bit of privacy. I did a trip over to the Wallowas, however, and there really wasn't much for bushes in between. I think one guy was miffed a bit because he had to poop his dog a little farther away after I showed up.

I thought you had probably checked it out already. I saw where there was an annual pass for $85, but wasn't sure if it was for camping or not... :NC ... Oh well, a person needs to check on these things and save $$ where you can... :money:
