Removable Fender-mounted Table

Postby Prototear » Thu Jan 14, 2016 2:09 am

As I think ahead about the details of my trailer build (which is far from completed) I occasionally find interesting components to consider. A couple weeks ago I found these 1-legged portable tables on Woot.com that seemed like they would work well as a fender extender table but could also be used in other situations. I bought 2 in the last week of 2015 and they arrived just after the new year and I see that they are available again on Woot.com at the same price I paid ($40). I had considered the aluminum slots that some folks use and have been intrigued by Bob Henry's crutch-leg table because it is both resourceful and adjustable. This one has an adjustable leg that must have borrowed from his crutch-leg idea!

This is called the Redi Top Portable Folding Table:

For those not familiar with Woot, it was the first (or one of the first) deal-of the day sites that sold clearance or liquidation stuff and just ONE featured item per day. It grew to sell maybe 6 different items per day, then was acquired by Amazon who has expanded it to sell maybe 20-30 items at a time (featured items are just for one day, and many other items may be featured for about 5-7 days or until they sell out). This table is available for just one day, until midnight Central time (23 hours from now). It might pop again sometime or you might find it elsewhere later.

I plan to use these on my aluminum tread-plate Jeep-style fenders since they will be stiff and strong enough. I suspect the won't work so well on a classic curved teardrop fender as it could present an awkward fit. It has 2 bar clamps to attach to a fender, tree branch, table or whatever, an adjustable leg, and it folds up to the size of a small attache case that barely fits in my 3" high storage compartment "basement" under the floor of my trailer. I haven't tried it yet but I was thinking of attaching both to the same scrap of 2x6 lumber or plywood to make a single free-standing table - the bar clamps seem like they might be able to hold it tightly enough to do it.

I wanted to share this in case someone else finds it useful or to give ideas in case others are looking for ideas if they want to make one of their own to fit their own needs better.

This solves one small build item for my trailer, now if I could only get the rest of it done so easily.....

I posted that in the "new finds" thread a week ago. Kicking myself for not ordering it then. Hoping they will do another round of those later.

Done that. Works good! Put it anywhere you want. :)
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

Running the single leg back to anchor on the tear will avoid any issues with unlevel ground
