Hello from Akron

Postby bauerhillboy » Sun Jan 17, 2016 8:19 am

I'm new here, but we've been into Teardrops since about 2008.We currently have a 2013 Little Guy 5x8 Silver Shadow. We usually travel from here to Acadia National Park for a couple of weeks every September. This year we're making the "once-in-a-lifetime" 10,000mi. voyage to the Western National Parks! That's 6 weeks or so living out of our Honda Element/Teardrop combination. Any of you done that sort of thing? I'm looking for pointers...not about what to see, but more about what sort of little things we should have on hand to make the trip more user-friendly.

Oh...we're taking our Cavashon, Rider, with us : )

John.

Hello John... welcome to the site :shake hands: :shake hands:

I am envious of the long trip you are planning for... :envious: Have you decided on a route yet... :NC

We went to Az and then to San Diego.. From there up through Vegas to Teton Nat., up through Jellystone, the Dakotas and back to MN... :) Too much of a rushed trip though (about 3 weeks)...

Keep us in the loop with the route and of course, :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: :pictures:

We did such a trip in 2012 and the blog my wife did is here http://tomandnancygrover.blogspot.com/
This was our first long trip and Nancy was a bit over concerned about finding camping spots so we tended to, on the way West, stop at KOA's. Ubiquitous convenient and easy to find. Quality of KOA's was good to terrible. On the way back we were not under the same time constraints and stayed in more state parks.
Things not covered, on our Subaru I had the biggest transmission cooler installed that would fit and switched to synthetic ATF, went to a 60/40 propylene glycol antifreeze which gave me a 260F boil point and I bought an Ultraguage which connects to the OBD II port and among other things told me the engine temperature. There were a number of times when we had to turn off the AC and take it a bit slower. If you wish to talk I can send a phone number. We are up near Toledo and will be headed West This summer.

Hi John,
I am planning a spring trip to Southern AZ and back this year...

I am not sure when I will get to CA and need to meet with a couple guys while in AZ... I would like to spend a couple weeks there and then head up the coast with my wife...

I grew up prospecting as a kid and I guess I am addicted to Metal Detecting and prospecting for gold... :D

I don't find enough enough gold to even pay for the trips, but I enjoy it ... so, I go prospecting, and camping (both dry camping and camping with hook-ups)... 8) 8)

I joined the TJ's in 2014 and camped with them (Good Folks) in Minnesota last year ... I am hoping to make the AZ TJ Chapter's spring gathering at the Lost Dutchman Park, but ... we'll see if all works out...
Happy Camping & Building,
John (JC)
