question: where are the best places to exchange/purchase Canadian money here in the US before we get there? As we have spoke about before - my bank sucks for doing this. Any suggestions for all of us money novelists?

Do not buy Canadian money from any bank.....in the USA or Canada.
Just get money from an ATM with your Bank Card or your Visa.
I use Walmart, as the only charge $1.50 per transaction (you can get $300.00 at a time) and you get the up to the minute exchange rate.

thank you, Brian. I hope this will be some good info for everyone coming! I know I will be using it after getting burned by my bank last year when I headed north. Almost a $1.00 for $1.00 exchange rate from my bank when the rate was about .80 cents Canadian to $1.00 US at the time. I should have checked around first (contacted you) before doing the deal. Live and learn from your mistakes - (like not covering in the sun when it's out in it's full glory - just got back from the doctor for my sun burned ear ordeal, will be off from work until the 30th while it heals) take care. think I got that backwards on the exchange rate. When I gave $1.00 US and got $1.00 Canadian last year, I would have been getting about $1.20 Canadian if I had followed Brian's directions. Today you will be getting about $1.30 Canadian for your $1.00 US.

Hi Brian
Hey, a quick question. If a fellow uses a US credit card or debit card in Canada does the money come out as Canadian or US?

Hi Mikey
It will take your the US $ amount out of your bank or put it on your credit card.
Your statement will show the Canadian amount of the item purchased, the exchange rate at the time of the purchase, and the US amount charged to your card or withdrawn from your bank account.
ie if your were to buy a $10.00 item here in Canada on your Visa Card, you would have $6.87 charged to your card at todays rate.
Great year for you to be traveling in Canada!

2 cents rounds down to "0" here in Canada.
Since we got rid of those annoying pennies!
Really put a new spin on the old saying "My 2 cents worth".... because now it is officially worth "Nothing"? ;)

guess when in Canada the term should be "plum nickel" now being there are no more pennys. Nickels are still worth at least something, aren't they???? can't be much, being there are no more "cents"? (or is it, still have cents but just no more pennys?)
