New guy in Southern Ohio

Hello all,

My name is Jake, and my wife and I are looking into building a teardop camper. I would like to begin construction over the summer, assuming we get settled into the house we are in the process of buying. We already have a 4x8 utility trailer. It is built on the heavy side, but free is a heck of a good price :)

We are gathering intel now to create a plan. I`m leaning towards basing the design off the generic Benroy plans here, but modifying a few things. We have done some tent camping together, and I have years of camping experience from the Boy Scouts. We are planning on a basic build with no water, 110 volt power, ect. Just enough for us and the dog to get away for a few days without having a bunch of stuff to set up and tear down(a major hassle when changing location every couple days). We also enjoy kayaking, so this may allow us to get out on some different rivers and lakes than we`re used to.

I have some woodworking experience, more metalworking experience, and a little general construction experience. I know vehicles inside and out. I don`t foresee having any major problems building the teardrop if we do our research ahead of time and don`t rush it.

Thanks for having us!
-Jake

Thanks guys! I'll check out the tear jerkers page. Right now we are just in the looking around for ideas stage, so lots of reading and looking at pictures. We really only want to build one, so we are going to try and get it right, lol.

Hi Jake,
Have you given much thought to a basic design for your TD, and maybe even size, yet?

Searching this site provides a ton of different designs from low height to tall; some for mostly highway use and even some for off-road 4x4 use; some with sit-up tables for dinning or games; there are small and large standees; cargo conversions and even box car tiny houses.

Sooo, we are interested in your thoughts; what do you think you may want to tow to the next campground? :NC
