From scratch 5x10 Benroy Mod

Okay so here it goes. This is my attempt at a build journal. Please excuse grammar through out this thread. I am a hands on guy.

A little back ground on me. I am a welder/ machinist by trade but have done a little of everything. I enjoy building things and usually in the winter a do a wood project. So back around October I was on Craigslist and saw a TD for sale. I thought well that will be a fun project. I have been obsessed ever since. The wife is excited about the TD but is tiring of me obsessing.

I am starting this about 70% into my build but thought it's never to late to share your experiences.

I guess I will start with axle. After going around and around about torsion I think it is the way to go but I could not justify cost for the one I wanted. So I made a 4" drop axle with materials I had.

I decided to go with 2x2x1/4 angle with 3" channel for tunge. I used a one piece sheet of galvanized metal to seal underside. No sure why I have not seen more of this.

There is a lot of great information here, that you are going to need for the rest of your build.

Yes I am very excited about camping in my TD! This site has been very helpful. Sadly I have not found details of galley hatch seal/ trim for 1.5 walls. I am sure it is here I just have not found it. Like said I am pretty far along with build I just have been posting as I get time. Your fab skills are impressive.

On to the floor. I used pine studs ripped down to 2" widths. Two layers of 3/4 foam board. Finished off with 1/2 BC. I ran a really good grade pine 1x6 around the outside to mount 1/2 plywood walls to. I will post a detailed picture of trailer floor wall connection.

My postings have just about caught up with my build. Lol Things have slowed do to funding. Just taking a month to reciprocate.

This is a couple weeks ago. I have the outside skinned with Baltic birch. For the most part all the staining and polyurethane done.

Just to clarify I started it the first of November. But honestly it would be done about now if I wasn't waiting to buy all the fixtures, doors, and skin. Of course it didn't help that I cut two door opens for the large 30x36 doors =$$$$. My original goal was to be done in March. It could be as late as fall time now. I am currently in the process of preparing to purchase a new house. Anyway I am so ready for the first camping trip!
