The Plan ... so far

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

TWO DAYS LEFT ... still have to do the bearings , new rims and tires ... wow , didn't realize they were 14" tires ... and that license ... Better get busy !!!

found some really nice vinyl flooring in a pattern that "her worship" could tolerate / agree with .. $16.99 @ HD for a 6'X9' piece ... perfect and the price was right ... Once home , I fitted them (slightly oversize) in the TD very tight and it looks great ... one day in this heat and the vinyl was attaching itself to the painted (ahem !!!) floor ...

What do you guys do about fingerprints ???? I'm constantly washing fingerprints off EVERYTHING ???? Must be the painted finish .... guess you just don't notice the funk on a cleared wood surface ... Curses !!! Foiled again !!! hahahahahaha

Buy washable paint. ;) When it is your work you are more likely to see the fingerprints.
Course you could always talk the wife into walking behind you with a rag and cleaner.

Your an inspiration to us all. Keep up the good work.

Curtain rods mounted , coat hook ,hatch locks on the hatch , Got all my material layed out on the 11' dining room table and got the relic(my old machine ) sewing again , First panel of main curtain (cabin) done
This is a stretch for me (woven materials fabrication/ sewing )but I'm getting it done ....somehow ...

Several days into hurricane season now , and the wheel bearings have been inspected professionally and pronounced "Fine " ... Rims and tires and I'm done ... Plus some little stuff ... tongue weight around 300 lbs , with nothing in the galley...looks like I'll have to add a brick patio back there ... pretty much done especially if I keep the stick for the hatch lid support .... just not enough time to make a set of Mad Jack's cool hatch supports...wife's on me already about making board and batten shutters (Cape Cod style ) for the house...
My Flying buddies , locally and ww have chided me for the simple paint job I chose to use ... I thought it was a retro old school sorta' paint job????? .... they wanted flames and skulls ... as per usual ... I dunno' about those guys ..... all the ladies say it's "adorable " .. ;)

The unresolved issue for the past week has been tongue weight .... Mine is about 250lbs+ ( two big guys to lift it even a little )... Since I built my TD on a boat trailer , I only have about 3 feet behind the axle, where a huge heavy outboard hangs BEHIND the trailer ... My Silverado is rated for a 500 lb tongue weight (Fender hitch ) , but I'm worried even half that makes me nervous ...since you guys recommend a 150lb TW...I'd have to put alot of weight in the galley to even lighten the TW a little ...(an outboard motor would help , but then everybody would think it's a weird little houseboat ... Hmmmm!!!! TD houseboats )
Am I worried too much , will I have to move the axles forward (big job )????????

GPW,
Any chance you can store that air conditioner closer to the axle? Seems there isn't much weight up front unless the frame it self is that heavy. Remember you need water, extra fuel, ice, food and other things that will add up. Not to mention batteries.

I think I would load the tear then worry if I needed.

G. with the rating of your tow vehicle, I wouldn't sweat the tongue weight...10% is an ideal but s'long as your tow vehicle doesn't mind then...ehhhn(in this case)...

Mir... The AC is pretty much where it's gonna' stay (fixed in place )...I know all my "stuff" in the Galley , will help a bit , the logistics are , the galley (trailer) extends 3 feet behind the axle ... and 15 feet in front ...Schmaybe' I should consider shortening the front of the heavy trailer ... Or Just listen to my Guru (MJ) and roll it on down the road ... after all I'm not going to be racing around the highways with this beastie'...and I really need to finish this up so I can get on to the second TD build .... this is so much FUN , I have lots of ideas for a smaller lighter one ...more normal .... well sort of ... :)

Warning , Warning ... Long story about How I bought a used trailer from a licensed dealer , and still have no title yet ... ???? Subsequently, the State will not license my efforts ... Got the old run around between State Police , local office MVB and State DOT... Now I have to jump through the hoop to somehow obtain this title ....MY DUMB!!!! This was a nice boat trailer and will be worth the effort to legalize ... just a PIA with obviously unknowing
government workers ...a MOST inefficient bureaucracy , complicating our fun , simple lives , financed by the taxpayers.... What a deal ???

Don't Make My Mistake !!!!!
This will be my Last Post ... I truly appreciate the Help everyone has been so good as to provide... I'll be reading your exploits , but leave the snappy patter up to the experts .... If I start a new one soon , I'll post the pics ..I know you enjoy them ... Thanks again , and remember , the coffee's always on at my house ...
And a really BIG THANKS to Mike who provided us with this service ... !!!!!! Bye now !!! :)

Surly you are not really going to leave us? Having finished your tear, your expertise is invaluable and should be spread far and wide. That goes for the rest of you out there.

Your title~ The warning I got was to title a used trailer before changing.
I hadn't changed much, just enough removed to cast doubt. Perhaps you can find a simpathetic clerk to assist.

Hey GPW, I've followed your build with interest and now you're gonna take your ball home and not play anymore? What about your first trip? What about finally becoming legal? What about any design flaws you may discover? Come on fella, you still have plenty to offer this forum, you just don't realise it yet. :D

Cheers
Paul

OK, OK !!! I didn't mean to offend anyone , I just figured that youze guys knew so much MORE than me , I'd just leave it to the experts... and leave space for the new guys that needed it ...
BUT , if you can put up with my Geezer babbling and rambling , I really enjoy reading about all this and the exploits of the members....and will try to provide some usefull information , and possibly some silly opinions..

Still working on getting it legal ....I may cut the tongue down to help the tongue weight , and shorten it's 18' grande length...
Installed SS Buddy bearings 1.9" (that was easy )
Fire hose lower hatch cover /flap going on today .. Upper flap/hinge has worked out very well .. No Leaks !!!
Design flaws ???? The only one , so far , is the long tongue/heavy tongue weight...so far ... I'm sure these will become evident once we tow it more than a few miles ... shakedown cruise ...once we get legal ..

You are an expert! If someone asks the age old, "Where can I get X in New Orleans?" Who else but you would know better.

Besides, you've been around long enough to know that we talk about just about everything under the sun (including religion and politics both of which gets someone mad). Someone may ask about an unrelated topic that you truly are the expert on.

Glad you're sticking around.

Yeah, like where in New Orleans can I buy a copy of Anne Coulter's book so I can burn it.

:laughing1:

Sorry--I couldn't resist.
