God must hate RV’s ...

Postby GPW » Wed Feb 24, 2016 3:39 pm

Last night’s high winds and subsequent Tornadoes here in southeast LA , took out a RV Park up the highway ... 160 trailers destroyed ... :o :frightened: Survivors interviewed on TV were saying , they will never live in a trailer again ... After seeing the pictures , can’t say as I blame them ... Why do Tornadoes always head for the Trailer Park ... ???

I saw this on the news. It looked very bad. I did not hear if anyone was hurt but it looked like too much destruction to escape injury.

Would the ground screw that is sold to hold down trailers have held or is a tornado just too much for any light building?

My understanding is that the fact that the wind can get under them, coupled with the light weight is a big reason they lift off so easily. If you ever watched "storm chasers", the vehicles they used for chasing tornadoes had skirts to keep the wind out from under them.

Sadly two dead ... here’s some details ... http://www.nola.com/weather/index.ssf/2 ... r_home_pop ... And it is only now the winds are slowing down here... I’ve owned a house trailer in the past , it was my Art Studio , and it was just 2x2 “stick” construction , aluminum skin on the outside , thin paneling on the inside + 2” of fiberglass wool insulation .... Not much to them really ... and you could only anchor the frame down as there’s not really anything else to hold onto ... good wind and the box collapses anyway ... I wouldn’t want to be in one for sure ...

LARRY THE CABLE GUY'S phrase is "HAPPIER THAN A TORNADO IN A TRAILER PARK"

& JIMMY BUFFETT insists "THEY LOOKED A LOT BETTER AS BEER CANS"

either way, it is a shame that those folks lost so much and even 2 lives is too many

butt, it IS amazing that that much damage was done & only 2 lives were lost

Why tornadoes destroy trailer parks is a question that I don't think anybody has ever been able to answer. But, when a tornado hits them, all that seems to be left is the equivalent of toothpicks. It's sad. :(

It should be expected that some researcher has collected a government grant to study just about anything that we can think of.

I don't know if God hates trailers as much as news media loves showing them destroyed. Don't loose track of the fact that the same news media depicts acres of brick stick built homes that have nothing left but the foundation ! Also I noticed, and thought it curious, in some of the coverage, there were several stick built homes destroyed with travel trailers and motorhomes in their driveway essentially unharmed. Lee

Now it appears that storm went up the East Coast ... did more damage ... and more trailers ... along with everything else ... :frightened: I may stop building trailers altogether and become a stonemason...

If I build another home, I am seriously considering earth sheltered or underground. Of course I live in North Texas otherwise known as Tornado South.

I live in an earth sheltered house here. It is a 2 story dome, with the south side "cut off". I have a min. of 2feet of earth on the top. The south side is all glass. The south side is also doubled walled, in that the upstairs has a glazed walled and rooved walk way. [this works as a solar collector and a buffer] The lower floor has a 12 by 40 foot above ground room. The south side of it is glass.

It is quiet.. secure.. very easy to heat. We love it.

On the news this evening are happy stories how people survived the storm in their trailers , and how they’ve gone back and found their pets (alive and well) and other miraculous occurrences .. From the pictures of the destruction , it’s a miracle anybody survived ... :frightened: The weather people are saying they’ve Never before seen a storm like this here ... Kind of makes you wonder ...

While that may help with the small ones, It is important to remember that the EF5 that hit Joplin a few years ago moved a large, several story reinforced concrete hospital off of it's foundation.
