Mahogany Question

Does anyone here have mahogony on or in their teardrop? If so would anyone have any photos of what it may or will look like with a nice Clear Marine Varnish or Laquer?

Now that does look Beeeeutiful... How many coats of clear was applied in order to achieve the nice gloss or shine?

PS What brand of lights are those you have? Model Number? Did they come from RW JOHNSON?

The finish is Bristol marine varnish. http://www.bristolfinish.com/
This is the greatest stuff. It's a 2 part system so it drys fast. You can recost in 1-2 hours.
I put on 5 coats without sanding between coats.
Sanded and then put on the 6th coat and your done.

The taillights are 32 Ford reporduction.

I used marine grade okume, with dark colonial red mohogany aniline dye, epoxy and auto clear coat...maple trim with light yellow aniline dye...Doug

Doug these lights I have are actually for my 46 Chev truck..i think maybe same as yours.

Are them 42 - 46 Chevrolet lights you have?

Whats the best way of testing them right out of the box? I was trying to see the brackets as I dont have them or how they are installed...Are they LED? Or how does one change them to LED?

Heikki...that's what I have, 40-54 GM truck lights...only this time around I did the stainless bodies for them...did you get those from TaillightKing.com...if so...he has the LED boards available for them...I'm willing to bet yours are incandescent as you have glass lenses in the original dark color...the LED ones are plastic and more clear...check my album, I've posted some pics with them lit up...and to test yours...they ground through the stud on the back of the light...just expose the wires, and touch them to the + on the battery and ground the stud on the -....2 wires...1 for brake, 1 for running..the LED.s have 3 wires on them, brake running and ground..and I'll shoot a pic of a bracket to show you...it's not a real official one...I made them myself...Doug

Since I know your also a car nut take a look at the dash of my Triumph Roadster http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/paulbos@s ... /my_photos . Seven coats of (Deft) laquer, 1500 grit wet sanded between each coat. Came out better than I could have dreamed. If you need some veneer tips let me know.

Hey There

I finally got a photo of the Interior Mahogany ... Has anyone heard of Sable mahogany? This is whats being used for our interior..Took a couple photos as best we could to bring out the color... It kind of changes in color depending on the angle of looking at it..

Here is a sample of the veneer ... Hope you folks like it as much as we do.
It will be varnished or as recommended here by wood craftsmen to lightly oil it then it will bring out the nice grain...The cost is outrageous here too..but quality is what we want so.....

The sable mahogany looks like Sapele Mahogany used for marine plywood.
