Road Trip

Postby Kaz » Sun Mar 27, 2016 7:11 am

Looking to take an East coast road trip in May. Hoping to make it to Virginia area at least before it's time to turn around. Never traveled outside of New England and am looking for ideas on where to camp. Scenic drive and options maybe. I have driven to NC for business but that was a marathon drive down 95, and getting through NY over the George Washington bridge is something I hope to avoid. I only have a week so don't know how far I can actually get. Any help from experienced road warriors?

You are probably aware time of day is critical for getting through the NYC circle of confusion. I find the earlier the better.
AM radio 880 and 1010 provide traffic updated every 10 min. Check for construction ahead of the trip. Check their web sites.

You can cross the Hudson in Troy NY, Newburgh–Beacon Bridge, Bear Mountain bridge, Tappan Zee Bridge or other crossings which should be less crowded than George.

NJ Turnpike may be better than the Garden State Parkway heading south due to shore traffic on weekends in May.

Not sure of your route Some NJ state campgrounds Can be found here.

There are a number of sites to find what is around the halfway point etc

This site will give weather conditions along the route

I am heading from New Jersey to Bar Harbor in July and am looking for a campground I can stop at in New Hampshire which will be a single night to sleep before continuing to Bar Harbor in the morning.

Can't think of any campgrounds in NH on the way to Bar Harbor, we always go to the white mountain area. We really like the state and national parks. They are generally cleaner and lack golf carts. Hope your heading to Seawall campground in Bah Habah! Awesome place, we like loop B.
