Here is my tow rig. 1997 Land Cruiser 80 series. Fully factory locked on 35s. Trailer was homemade, but not by me. It is on 33s. My only issue is that the Land Cruiser doesn't have the power to pull the trailer as well as I would like. Slows down to 55 MPH or so on steep hills and only gets 8-10 mpg.

Nice cruiser i would have though the 4.5 twincam would have towed that with ease.
Mines a 94 and tows pretty well but ive yet to tow my camper but full of tools ect it gos pretty well

Thanks! I have only had it for a couple of weeks and gone camping/offroading once. I drove it from Salt Lake to St. George to bring it home Got 8.6 MPG for the first leg and 10.* for the second. If I let it shift down and spin like crazy, I could probably keep it at 65-70, but the speed limit is 80 almost the whole way with a lot of hills. On the flat I could do that, but I slowed down on even gradual hills without downshifting to 3rd. On backroads it is not a problem, and offroad I can always go into 4 lo. But in the Sand I definably wished I had more power. The Trailer is pretty sturdy (aluminum then foil backed insulation then 3/4 inch birch plywood. nose and roof are 1 3/4 in plywood), weighs about 2,000lb

Mines 5 speed manual.
I can go pretty much everywhere in 5th gear as the gearing in the manual box is excellent.the fuel economy does leave a bit to be desired though but since i installed the part time 4 wheel drive conversion kit and freewheeling hubs it is alot less thirsty

Another example of global availability differences!
Toyota hasn't sent us any manuals since the 80's. All 80 and 100 series are auto's.
I made my big tow rig manual trans, dual disc clutch, and transfer case.
You can see it in the background.
Oh yeah, and it has a Cummins 12 valve.

Interesting, I have read mixed reviews about the part time 4 wheel drive conversion.

I love the conversion.
Alot easier to park and stear, the only time i miss it is when its wet and greasy.
You have to remember you dont have fulltime 4x4 anymore!
Theres a few big block chev deisil 80 series kicking around here.
Marks adapters make a conversion bellhousing ect.
