New 7x14 Toy Hauler Build

Over the past few weeks, I've done a bunch of work on the kitchen area. While I did most of the dimensioning of the lumber at TechShop, I've taken to doing the finishing work with my hand tools in the trailer itself. Here are some pictures of the work in-progress:








I have the tongue box and final parts for my electrical and propane systems. I'm hoping to get this part of the project complete in the next few weeks before I head to Barber Motorsports Park at the end of July for a weekend of riding on the track there.

Your conversion is coming along well! I really like your cabinet design - both the layout and the stains/colors.

I've been playing around with different designs recently and am considering a cabinet depth that is less than the standard 24" depth for a residential base cabinet. Yours appear to be less than that. Can you say what depth your cabinets are please?

My cabinets are 18" deep including the face frame - (17.25" for the cabinet - .75" for the face frame). I felt like 24" would protrude too much into the space. This is one of the main reasons I decided to custom build mine.

It has been a real jigsaw puzzle to pack in the electrical, ice box, gas, and water systems. Slow but fun!

I have sketchup models of the cabinets which I can share with you if you are interested. They are pretty close to what I actually ended up building.

I made a little progress last night on the tongue box - or rather some vent hole covers for it! The tongue box will house both a 20lb LP tank and a 120 amp hour agm deep cycle battery. As such it needs to vent both propane (heavier than air - via holes in the floor of the box) and hydrogen (lighter than air - via holes in the top of the box). I wanted something to keep most of the water from coming in via the top holes. Drawing inspiration from "rudder cable fairings" I fabricated these covers last night. I'll have some photos soon showing them installed.

BTW, thank you for the offer of your cabinet Sketchup files. Unfortunately, I'm a dinosaur and don't know how to use Sketchup. It's on my to-do list to learn.

There is a bit of a learning curve with SketchUp, but it's certainly less than with more traditional CAD programs. I've probably spent 100 hours in the program for this and other projects. It was especially helpful in the early stages to let me visualize what I wanted to build - and then again in the later stages when I used actual measurements from the trailer to produce a model that I could use when making cuts.

Nice covers!! Have you thought about adding a small piece of screen to keep the nest-building wasps and/or bees out ... it looks like a great doorway for mud daubers, paper wasps, and the like

Just thinking (I removed a football sized yellow jacket nest from under my deck last week) ... the bug guy said that any small holes, vents, and access panels with holes in my trailer and house, of course, are an invitation to nest building wasps and bees.

Bob Henry has stated that bathroom cabinetry is 18" deep, if you want to go prefab.

Its been a really long time since I posted an update! Since the project is nearly wrapped up, I thought I'd post some pictures of that last 6-9 months worth of work. I know - teardrop time scale right?!

I bought a trailer tongue box and customized it a bit. 120 aH battery, battery monitor shunt, bracket for the LP bottle and various hole for venting, cords, etc.

Internal wiring to the DC panel, battery monitor, switch, CO/LP detector, and power converter/smart charger. Panel supplies power to the lights, fan, USB ports (x4), and DC power plugs.

Once I had all that sorted out, I was ready for a little road trip to Barber Motorsports with my friends.

Later on I started to get more serious about completing the drawers and doors. Here is a photo of some of the work taken at the TechShop in Austin:



I didn't take too many intermediate pictures. Here are the final results:

Some time later, I added the counter top edging (with a hand cut dove tail on the corner for style):



Here I'm gluing the edging to the counter top with pegs:



And then carefully flush cut and trimmed the pegs:

I'm on the final stretch now, just need to do the final work on the stove and sink and I'm ready to be done with the project for a while.
