I strongly agree, no one should have sold any trailer built like this. What else did they do wrong. Any first time builder should have known better. You are being so understanding, I would demand a full refund.

There is probably no way to "squeeze" the water out. There are chemical hardeners that will displace water and purport to repair rot, but I have yet to see a real success in their use.

In general once rot starts, the only way you're going to stop it is to replace the rotted wood, and prevent it recurrence through proper sealing and preparation.

I'd be trying to get my money back on that trailer is I could.

My $0.02 worth (worth even less in Canada)

I agree with some of the others. Before you try to fix your teardrop, try to get your money back on it. Also, people need to know who built the thing so they don't fall prey to that person or company. When you go to camp gatherings, you could display a sign, telling people who built it. Take a picture of the trailer with the sign in front of it and send it to the person/company, telling them that you will stop displaying the sign if they will make good on the damage.

However, if you or a "friend" built the teardrop, you may decide to just fix it. Then, the Rot Doctor information that I gave earlier may be the way.

Hello All, and thank you for your advice and support.
I'm becoming quite frustrated with this situation; this was supposed to be a fun purchase and now it's turning into a liability it seems. I have a lesser issue with the trailer that I'd like some advice on. It seems that the trialer bed is showing quite a bit of rust. not sure if this is a big deal or not but since the trailer is less than 90 days old I feel it's a bit unusual - is it something that I can fix with a good old can of Rustoleum, or am I destined for a long, losing battle with the rust monster? Paul I have resized the images! 8)

One of the images isn't that great but was the best I could do while crawling under the trailer! Thanks in advance for your advice!

Rust. Most of the metal on a trailer has a thin spray of black paint and will rust. Some axles and hubs seem to be sold bare so rust is the norm unless an owner gets a can of paint and brushes on a thick coat.

That trailer is OLD, like years old and left in the weather. No way I would keep it. Unless you got like some super deal.

If you decide to keep the trailer, wire brush down as much of the surface rust as possible and sand the paint. Coat it all with phosporic acid. This turns the iron oxide (rust) into iron tannate and turns it black. This gives you a stabilized coat to prime, then paint.
