Post all you pictures to www.photobucket.com It's free. Then all you do is copy and paste the link in your thread. It sizes them for you.

http://picresize.com/ I use this site, fast and easy, set the quick resize to 640 pixels wide for landscape pics, or 640 pixels for 640 tall for portrait pics, then click resize, then save the resized picture.
They will upload with no issues

With photo bucket, it is better to copy and paste
the "Direct Link" and not the URL of your photo.

Here is using the Direct Link
Image

Here is just copying the URL link.
http://s705.photobucket.com/user/BrushyBill/media/Tear%20box.png.html?sort=3&o=2

As you can see, if you want the post to actually show
the photo, use the Direct link using the IMG button
at the top of your text box.
Do not use the URL button.
Otherwise, folks will have to click on your links and
it will take them to photo bucket to see your photos.

They do have a free account, however the storage
is limited. Should you ever delete the photos used
from your photo bucket account, the links you used
in your post here will be broken, never to be seen again.

I have used a pro account with them for about 10 years.
Photos I posted back then are still visible in post
I made on other forums.

When you upload to photo bucket, you can tell it how you
want your photos sized. It will do it as they are uploaded.

Hope this helped.

EDIT: Posting photos like this does not effect the bandwidth for the forum to the best of my knowledge.

Mike...

I believe the issue is more to do with the large size of the pictures taken by today's cameras and phones. 8 mb is tiny by today's standards.
Many forum's automatically resize down to the size they want.
Facebook does this automatically, I document all the stuff I do on my facebook projects page, then download it to my phone. Those downloads are perfect for this forum.
