Farm Campground gets new trees

Postby Vedette » Sun Apr 03, 2016 10:59 am

Just bought 110 new trees for the Camping area here at the farm.
Ted.....this might be a good test for that new pace maker? :R
I was wishing I had some kind of little booster yesterday when I loaded and unloaded them while making 6 trips to the nursery. :NC
Did it in the record time of 2 hours with no beer break........but I did get a very good night sleep last night.
But now they need to be planted.
I thought life was supposed to get easier after retirement??? :wine:

Guess I wasn't thinking! If I would have waited until the "Farm Gathering" we would have had a much larger work force!

Good idea. You could have made everyone attending bring a shovel, and had a tree planting race. Oh well, guess you'll have to do it all on your own. Should work up a might thirst

one dig at a time with a big brimmed hat on as long as I just take it slow and easy - I was out of shape before, now it's even worst. Wait till the Farm Gathering and each person could name a tree for themselves in their own memory!! 110 trees?? that's about - what 4 or 5 trees per trailer!! the couples (w kids) would be getting it easy - I'd have to plant all of the 4 or 5 being single. Here's how we could do it to make it a little bit fairer, the 4 ft. wide trailers plant 4 - the 5 ft. do 5 and the 6 ft. do 6 (sorry Larry & Babby) Just and idea. Trouble is, are you doing to be able to keep them watered and alive till the middle of July?

Apricots......there is real bad news on that front! Our tree looks great, but only about 25 blossoms this year.
The neighbours tree had 5000 blossoms on it until he took a chain saw to it today.
We may have to have a Peach or Cherry cobbler challenge this year?
And the trees, a row of Emerald Cedars about 3' from your campsite Ted.

what you mean - my campsite?? I am moving this year to the northeast corner (where Charlie was parked) so as to be closer to where the vehicle is parked, last year was just to much walking, especially when you get back the trailer and realize you forgot something else. You can call it - my senior citizen move. Plus you will be needing space for the tree plantings, "I" will need to stay out of the "workers" way!!

Up in that corner you will be closer to the new out house if I get it built in time.
And the trees, they are 4' & 5' tall already. So I am going to rent an auger for behind the tractor to dig the holes.
Sandi can't believe I started another project just 2 1/2 weeks before we leave for Shasta.
We are in count down and can't wait to hit the road.
You must be too..........being retired and all?? ;)

I had that same complaint with the first year of my apricot tree at my previous residence. Then, I found out that they bare smaller amounts of apricots every other year. The second year that the tree was in, it had a decent crop. Less fruit the first year means they can use their energy to grow roots and get established. ...Love apricots!
