First weekend in a TearDrop

Postby cfunni » Mon Apr 11, 2016 11:01 am

I spent the past weekend in a rental Tear Drop. I was camping at Texas Motor speedway in a rented Little Guy T@G Basic. I loved it. I am in the process of building mine, and this was a perfect chance to decide what I want to build into mine. Overall I liked the layout. Towed vey easy with my small Tacoma PU truck. One thing I thought was interesting. The AC unit was in the wall towards the rear. There was an exhaust fan system and output ports on each side to exhaust the hot air. Anyone have any comments on this type of set up. The weather was so cool at night I never needed the AC so it never got turned on.

I can't see why that type of system wouldn't work, but honestly it's overkill. Just cracking the roof vent open will take care of the hot air in that small of a space. Let convection do the work rather than electricity.

Glad you had a good time.

**EDIT**

Whoops! Don't misunderstand, I wasn't advocating against the AC at all. I'm a Midwesterner myself and 7/10's of the camping season around here would be impossible to enjoy without AC at night. My point was that I don't think the exhaust fans to pull off the hot air are necessary. Sorry for the mix up.

Well in South East Texas where it stays above 80 deg all night with 98% humidity is why I will have a small AC unit in my TearDrop. That small space becomes a toaster oven real quick.

You should want the air conditioner to blow on your feet, not on your face or chest. If it blows cold on your head, you could get an ear infection or chance pneumonia, etc. ...Been there, done that in a house with a window air conditioner near the headboard of the bed when I was younger...got really sick.

In original for window AC units have lots of airflow, the more airflow you have the more efficient it will operate. AC like that will have a hard time working well in low humidity conditions , they build them for many climates .

We love our fantastic fan. We don't have ac and the fan cools us down well. As long as there is a breeze we are comfortable. Sometimes I have to turn the fan off at night because I get cold! I like the fan because we can run it all night on our battery and the solar panel recharges the battery the next day. With ac folks have to plug in to use it.

Natural a/c here, if I camped down south a/c would seem pretty important to me.

Hi Doris........

How warm does it get in Maryland? Here in Oklahoma and Texas, a fan just won't do it. With 90's to 100+ degree days with 90+% humidity, there is not a fan that will help us down here. The breeze here makes you feel like you've just walked into a sauna (sp?). Spring and fall we have cool nights but even then we will have some days of high 80's & 90's degree weather. The humidity is what makes us melt. 8)
