I like the spray foam idea. We considered it but didn't know how much a can would cover, so there was no estimated price for covering the whole thing.

My husband said no to changing the plastic bottom, but it's very dry here most of the year. Our compromise is to not use the tar tape on the rear and store it at an angle so that any moisture can drain out. We can change it later if we have to. .

How are these campers usually attached to the trailer frame?
I took notes while reading the thrifty alturnative thread, but all I see is glue? I'm having trouble imagining th at glue would hold the 2x4 frame of my camper to the metal frame of the trailer.
We have been talking about several different options.
Bolts with strong metal plates at each end seems like way too much, and a good bit of extra weight too.
Someone suggested zip ties. plastic breaks down over time.
We are leaning towards metal cables. Each would have a weight capacity of over 800 lbs . Hopefully our entire camper, including the trailer, won't weigh much more than that.

The cabin floor frames and floor are bolted to the trailers frame ...

T-nuts on top with bolts up thru, elevator bolts, carriage bolts with anti rotation washers in counter sunk holes, hurricane ties; all have been used.

What a blessing to have such great friends. I didn't realize that his truck had a short bed.



We (mostly him) figured out a way to transport 16' long pine planks, and a stack of 4' x 8' foam pannels in his short bed pickup truck. Thankfully we only had to go about 3 miles. Everything arrived safely...

Now I have lots more work to do

It was like tearing off a band aid. We got all we should need all at once instead of buying little bits at a time.

My little campers were eager to help out today.

I attached the deck frame to the trailer frame, then filled the spaces with foam insulation, then used expanding spray foam to glue them in place and fill any gaps.


I'm glad I stayed up last night to trim the spray foam. It would not be fun doing that in the sun with the reflective coating glaring in my eyes, and the heat reflecting back at me.
Now I'm working on putting the pine planks on the deck.
I'm not so thrilled with these toung and groove planks.
We picked the best ones that were available, but so many of them are warped slightly one way or another, that I can't get them to lock together.
Handsome Husband says to do the best I can with what we have, and find something to fill any gaps with before we varnish it... I'm not sure what that something should be...

Well, it doesn't look like a boat trailer anymore. I'm still pretty frustrated with the pine planks. If I ever get them again, I will try to get them when a new shipment comes in. That way the r will be lots more to choose from, and hopefully less warped..

Looks GOOD to me !!! Wood does that !!! Picking straight wood is an art !!! Just think , no worries of de-lamination ...

To put it into perspective, wood used to be alive, and it doesn't stop changing after you nail it down, either.

I've watched the unsupported edges of my galley walls turn in and out almost 1/16 inch per side, total, relative to my hatch just depending on the weather.

Perhaps I missed it, how do you intend to seal between all of the T&G's?
