San Diego Lightweight Toy Hauler / Man Cave

Hello everyone. I have wanted a toy hauler for a long time now but living in San Diego you can't fit a trailer in your driveway let alone two cars. So I decided to build one and while conducting my search I came across this site and became intrigued with converting a cargo trailer.

With the help of Rocky5000100 answering my questions about towing with a 4Runner I pulled the trigger this new 7x12x7.











Let the fun begin, I will try to keep this up to date as I go along with my build.

It is pretty cool eventually finding like minded folks who have also had the same thought of converting their cargo trailers to campers/toyhaulers/mancaves.

I'd recommending building stuff on wheels. It's always nice to have the option of being able to easily move (arrange) to make space for other things if need be.

Works perfect for my driveway and I got a huge discount on it because it was a factory order mess up.

I actually plan on putting in a curb side door further down the road (year or so).

I'm sure you'll love your MaxxAir fan. I chose the same model for our conversion. We've never had a problem with water infiltration during a rain storm - works as advertised.

For what it's worth, I don't understand people who get a Fantastic fan with a rain sensor...I want my fan open and operating when it's raining.. Or after buying a Fantastic fan, they buy a cover so that they CAN operate it when it rains. Okay, rant over.

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone. No progress on the actual trailer today, just worked on making its parking spot so I can have my drive way back.

I have never used either fan, I chose the MaxxAir Fan mostly because of the lower profile when not in use and still being able to be weather proof. I did not want a big cover sticking up from the top all the time.

Okay so far today, filled in the gaps with spray foam and built a wood frame for the roof vent.

Anyone have any ideas on how to attach the wood frame to the roof joists?

A Fantastic Fan with the cover is pretty inexpensive if you get the basic reversing model and no thermostat.
I have had one in 6 different trailers and NEVER had water inside at all and have been through some impressive storms too!

So for me it is the ability to save a lot of money and have a great fan with no chance of water entry not even melting snow!

If I needed to fit in a shorter space with a trailer I might get something lower profile but otherwise I don't understand paying that much more for a fan?
