Mike, the only Good thing about hurricanes ,is now with all the new technology we get some decent Warnings , so we can have time to load up the trailer and get out of Dodge (~3 days) ... Usually driving just a couple hundred miles away puts out of storms fury ... and it’s usually just a 3 day stay , then return to whatever is left ... However sometimes a really Big storm , or really big blunder ( or crooked contractors ) by those that build levees, causes something like Katrina where, the storm caused damage to improperly built structures that flooded most of the city .
Your humble narrator however, lives on the West bank of the Mississippi river on High ground and so suffered no damage , save losing 60 very large oak trees ( blown over) ... Still we were blocked from coming back to the city for
5 weeks and had to sneak back in town in broad daylight , on back roads ,dodging the armed National Guard ...
It was this experience that caused us to come here and build a TD trailer(3 now), Everybody that had a little travel trailer was parked out in somebody’s driveway , out of sight , out of mind, and they did well .. That became the plan ...
Note: for many years we just went to our in-laws in Texas, but they got old and passed away , so that Luxury was no longer an option ... Trailer is it Now !!! We tested this during a minor storm , by driving our then "commercial trailer" 200 miles away and “camping” in a friends driveway ... Perfect ... We were never in their way and no bother , and I cooked for them ... Something we always end up doing for everybody anyway ...
This is different than all the camping done when I was younger, old BS(although we never were one ) Pup tent , WW2 surplus backpack ... pretty basic ... which just doesn’t play for the wife anymore...
